Southern NY, Dutchess county and below

Yea, I just give mine away to a guy I know who in the end eats them if they get too unruly. He picks me up a bag of feed or scratch as a thanks as well as brings me colorful eggs as well.

Good Morning everyone!!

Thank God it's Monday. Kids are back in school, after a very good weekend! Our Panthers JV won their football game-46-0. Amazing game. Some real talent on that team.

My two sons on the PAL Sharks lost their games, but My little man is starting to look like he's "getting" the game, so the coach kept him in for most of the game, and he was really happy. My middle son's team lost to a team that looked like a varsity team. LOL!!! Our boys did a good job at damage control, but since they're older, they felt the loss.

And How about those JETS??

It was a great game, I actually had a friend of mine call me to try and put a damper on my day (Disgruntled Giants fan) he started with, "Well, it was the Bills, and they stink". I kept my snarky comments to myself, but honestly, why do people do that? Eh, whatever. My family had a great afternoon watching, and Tim Tebow and Mark Sanchez are eye candy so I got some drool time in as well.

Today is scoop the poop day, I'm hoping to get it done as soon as Max (little guy) gets on the bus, so I can go back to bed-I didn't sleep well last night-my husband turned off the A/C and I was sweating.

It's such a nice day, after the weather from heck on Saturday-it's crisp and nice. Maybe I should sleep outside...nah, I'll wake up with chickens roosting on me.

What are everyone's plans for this lovely day??

It is gorgous out!!!!!!!

Our day is tidying up the loose ends on the new coop and visiting my mom.

We had company yesterday afternoon. My stepson who is 35 and engaged forever to a lovely young lady..... announced to my dh tom that he will be a grandpa at the end of March if all goes to plan. Wow, grandparents at last! We don't spend a lot of time together but, maybe that will change a little bit now.
Gotta get a quilt started.......love having the pressure on as it makes me settle down and work.

Thanks everyone for the rooster advice. I put the LS roo and pullet on craigslist for $10and got a message from someone who will take the pullet, but not the roo.

Here's my question. Does it make more sense to wait the month+ for the Sussex show and try to sell the LS as a breeding pair, bearing in mind that regular loud crowing is imminent, or sell the pullet and give the roo away to someone for their stewpot?

I can deal with the eventuality of his being eaten. I don't really think of them as pets, rather as food sources.

It was a beautiful day today. I tutored for a couple of hours, then met a friend for a spontaneous lunch. Then home for some quality time with my computer...

And Laura had a job interview this morning. When she got home we talked about how it went and she said she thought she had a 70% chance of being called back. Within the hour they called back to offer her the job. $17/hour, benefits (they pay 30%), full-time and a 10 minute ride to work. No weekends or nights. A nice steady office job doing investigative work, which she has experience with. A nice birthday present for her.

I'm sure her boyfriend is thrilled. They've been talking about getting a house together.

Bobby and I are already making plans for her room...

Alot of us "pros" (HAH!) will refuse to break up the pair. Take the roo, or you get nothing! That way it's the buyers problem.
Depends on how desperate you really are.
I have been locking my noisy ones in the garage.
But stoopid as I am, I wait until 4am to hear them crowing, then go outside and snatch them up.
By then the bad neighbors have heard them, and all the OTHER boys have already started in.
It does calm down once the offenders are in lockdown. And I let them out around 8 or so.
I really should just put them in at night, but that would be too easy.

And if they were in the market for a point of lay pullet, they should pay at least $20 for just the girl.
Don't give in. That's why you priced them so low.... because of the rooster dinner.

Thanks for the advice, CFG! I reposted on the Hudson Valley craigslist because people there can take roosters. Listed them for $20. I'll give it a day or so to see if there's any interest. If not, I'll sell just the pullet and give away to some hungry rooster lover...

Can you believe I already got an offer for the chickens? $20 for the LS pullet/roo combo. I have to contact the guy and find out how to arrange pick up/delivery. We're planning to go to the Ultimate Yard Sale in Stormville on 9/15, so I'm hoping to work it out for then. It's Kismet.

I also posted on the Hudson Valley Craigslist last night. I have someone who wants my two special needs pullets (crooked beak and scoliosis) but not the roos. I am hoping to get the pullets into a new home ASAP. I will reduce the price on the Roos or give them away, if I have to...

Good Morning folks. It's a beautiful morning, much like the nightmarish one, 11 years ago. My morning will be spent watching the memorial services, my husband is working today, in the FD, so he's going to have a somber day as well.

This afternoon I have to take my son to have an xray on his arm, and his cast changed. My little man has football practice, then his "classroom orientation" where me or my husband have to sit in a tiny chair, and listen to his teacher tell us about what he'll be doing this year. The kids draw special stuff for the parents, so we kinda have to go.

I have to buy a new waterer today-the 5 gallon one I have for the girls is losing the vacuum. I tried scrubbing it, and washing the O ring, but it's not working as well.

I'm sorry I can't help anyone with rehoming roos-I'm in Brookhaven so roos are out of the question for me too. I wish I could have one or two, but the dummy across the street would call the town I'll bet. On a funny note though, you know when you use your wifi, and all the ones within range pop up? They all have names, like Smith family, Home, or something similar? Well, since this guy is such a jerk, leaving his dog out all night to bark and snarl, and I know he can see MY wifi, since I can see his, I've renamed mine, "Animal Control 25 HWD" It's his address...

I was considering "FBI Surveillance van" but I think Animal Control will keep him in line better.

Roberta, you should consider some kind of torture for the dummies you have on your block.

Already considering which torture I would enjoy more.
I understand that laws are laws, but my roos were here long before his house was even built.
I plan on downsizing, but these are my pets, not a pair of old socks that can be thrown into the garbage. sigh.

Oh yeah. The first roo I got rid of because of them was killed and eaten by a predator.
We went to check up on poor Marvin. RIP little boy.
If you didn't crow ALL the time, we wouldn't have had to go rescue you from where you were dumped a few months ago.
