Southern NY, Dutchess county and below

Good morning peoples!

It is a brisk one here today and crystal clear. My block has bunting hanging all over showing respect today, we have at least 6 FDNY and NYPD families living here. Sigh....the sadness never ends.

It's actually 2 years now to the day I first saw this old house of ours.....and never even looked at another. I think I loved it more because of the Patriotism being shown on the block that day. It was a good decision. :)

I hope you all have a good day and can smell the roses....if for even a fleeting moment at some point during the day.

Hi all,

I did wake up thinking how eerie it was that today is also a beautiful Tuesday morning. I wasn't in NY that day 11 yrs ago, I was stuck overseas, and I am so glad to be here today. I haven't told my girls about that day yet, but my youngest found a rainbow on the floor and I took this picture:

I hope we all have a moment of peace to ourselves to reflect.

There is a wonderful organization started by a family that I knew as a teen that lost their son Peter on 9/11. I always loved these parents, they seemed so genuine and loving and they proved it by creating this organization from their loss. Check out the Peter Alderman Foundation - I'm using this tapatalk app for the first time and I don't know how to put in links yet. There is a walk in Mount Kisco next month, I might do it.

Im not from NY but today each year i again feel the horror and sadness, cry tears .

I watch Today show each morning so saw it all from minute one. What seemed bad Katie Kuric reporting a small lplane accidentally hitting a building in NY and from there the reall story got worse and worse and worse. i still cant believe how bad something could get. The memory of the first building falling will make me cry and be seared on my brain until i die

I have been alive and watched on tv Kennedys assassination when i was 19 a horrible day...to.Vietnam horrors to our troops and onesided reporting that made ppl hate our own soldiers...to Desert Storm and Irac but Never in all my years have i seen another thing so like true HELL come to life ..and in America as that day.
Brave firemen and police thank you all.Alive and passed
May we never see such a day ever again in history of AMERICA
GOD BLESS US ALL>

I'll look into it! I normally do the Tunnel To Towers, but it's such a miserable run-they don't organize it right-runners get stuck behind walkers, 30K people in the tunnel, people wearing bunker gear collapsing...I skipped this year, I'll post pics from last year.

I am watching the memorial, and it's so weird-every time I hear the name of someone that I knew (I knew quite a few FF's that perished that day) it's always shocking. Even 11 years later.

My kids grew up with it. My daughter is the only one who was old enough to really know what was going on that day, she also remembers Wednesday the 12th, when her dad came home and burst into tears over all the brothers he lost. All of my kids wear red white and blue for this day, every year. When my daughter was in 4th grade she won an award for a poem she wrote about that day. Her english teacher still reads it at the schools 9/11 ceremony every year. I think the children of ALL firefighters grew up way too fast that day. My middle son was 10.5 months old on 9/11/01, and by his first birthday had been to more wakes and funerals than most people attend in a lifetime. It's sad that they are growing up in a different world.

It was a horrible day. While it's not the memories you would choose to have, I'm thankful that people are still remembering. Bless you.

Heather, thanks for sharing that beautiful photo for us. When it's time to tell the girls, I highly recommend a book called, "On That Day". It is a very positive and hopeful book about how the world changed on that day. I started teaching a year later, and it was always tough to discuss with classes. Especially with the third graders who knew what had happened. I'll never forget seeing the smoking rubble from my brother's house in Brooklyn. He and his wife were in Montauk that day and came home to ashes in their garden. I have a dear friend who lost his brother that day. I'll be praying for him, and all the families, today. My thoughts are always with the first responders, the true heroes...

Goodness, you know I just went on Amazon to find that book and the lowest price I can find for it is $40! It must be a good book. I will keep my eyes out for it at the library, maybe better to start off there instead.

This is the link to the Peter C. Alderman Foundation - http://www.petercaldermanfoundation.org
The mission is "The mission of the Peter C. Alderman Foundation is to heal the emotional wounds of victims of terrorism and mass violence by training indigenous health workers and establishing trauma treatment systems in post-conflict countries around the globe."

In other words, they help heal people from ptsd and prevent them from perpetuating the cycle of violence. Amazing, amazing organization that has healed so many people. The walk is for fundraising and it's just a walk, not really an athletic thing - http://walk.petercalderman.org - oh darn, I just realized it's this Saturday already. My head thought it was in October. Oh well, I can't make it. Anyway.

May we always remember the good that emerged out of the horror - everyone helping one another, the volunteering, the shared community feeling. May we never forget those that we lost.

This photo is so special. What a lovely image to hold in our hearts and minds when remembering this day.

Hi, I just sent you a PM.

Hi all. I need a rooster brought up to Vernon, anyone want to help out?
I don't mind doing the trip myself, was just a little too busy to take a whole day.
I can meet outside the city.... or?
Thanks!
