My parents live in Amityville too. They didn't flood with Irene but they flooded this time around with about three feet. UGH! Been crazy having them here for over a week while they try and patch up their house (when I say patch, I mean redo). They have 2 huge dogs and a parrot so my house is full. I don't want to complain but their dogs are ruining my new couch (expensive) and my antique wood floors are getting gouged on a daily basis. Trying to cover them with throw rugs but they can't cover everywhere. Couch has throw blankets too but the dogs smell and they are all over it. My mom has been feeding one of them who is spoiled rotten on the couch because he won't eat otherwise.Good Morning folks! My power and cable has been blinking again. It's fine, they turn it off to fix other blocks. My problem is-there's still wires hanging everywhere. What happens when this stupid Nor'easter comes in tomorrow?
Anyhow, today is clean up the yard day. Raking and bagging. there's no way I'm going to blow the leaves and use gas, so the kids are pretty annoyed with the whole storm thing making them do extra manual labor.Tired kids don't fight after spending 11 days together. My daughter is cleaning her room today. Danny went up to turn on the vent fan in her closet to draw fireplace heat to the rest of the house...oh boy. You didn't even see his head explosion coming. It seems Little miss has decided to shove everything she doesn't feel like looking at...in her closet. Not good.![]()
I have to take my kitty to the vet-UTI. Ugh. Good thing I bought health insurance for him. (After laying out thousands upon thousands several years ago for my Dobe to have surgery for an obstruction then having to put him down a while later because of pain...I almost lost my house-all my pets are now insured)
Danny just left for Amityville. His cousins house on the canal-under 5 feet of water, so he's got to start gutting it, to redo the whole thing again. This is the 3rd time. A Nor'easter took it out several years ago, then Irene last year caused her to replace all the floors, now the sheetrock, everything has to come out. I understand loving the life on the water-she's got her boat tied 10 feet from her back door...but honestly, I'd have moved after Irene. I just don't have the wherewithall for all of that.
I hope everything is good with everyone. Danny was able to fill his truck yesterday at Hess-he had to show FD id, but they have a pump for them, Cops, and Military. The policeman there told him to call me to fill my truck too. He told him he'd do that tomorrow if need be. Others need the gas more. I have 3/4 of a tank. If anyone needs anything delivered to them-let me know. I'm going into NHP at some time this week, my friends are collecting supplies for Danny's firehouse to bring to Breezy Point, so I have to get the stuff from them. I guess I'll clean out my attic too. It's a good excuse.
Have a great day, folks. I'll be around if I'm needed!!!
I hope you aren't seeing it.Seeing it firsthand is a very proufound moment..........it just burns into your brain.
Donna I am so sorry. That sounds so sucky. Would it be wrong to suggest the dogs be boarded? At the very least she could not feed the dog on your couch. That's wrong. A dog will eat when it's hungry and there's no excuse for that. I would also gently suggest that she buy some coverlets to put over your couch that can be washed. I think it is very kind of you to take them in but there's no need for her to not be living by your rules in your house. My parents live in Amityville too. I'm really about to lose it here and I know that sounds so selfish, especially because my mom would do anything for us. But, its not her, its the dogs. A newfoundland (who drools everywhere) and a collie mix who is just as big. Those dogs, combined with my two little dogs, her parrot and kids being home, I'm so stressed out, I feel like I'm going to explode! Sadly, wine isn't helping either.
Talk about an ungrateful daughter! I'm going out right now for some much needed hen time! Haven't even been able to do that much either.
Thanks for listening!
Amen to that Heather! Sounds like you had a crummy day.Donna I am so sorry. That sounds so sucky. Would it be wrong to suggest the dogs be boarded? I think we are all at our breaking point. I came home around 5:00pm to see that many streetlights were on in my neighborhood - except of course, the one across the street from my house. The cable worked for about an hour and then it went out. We just got a robocall from our Mayor declaring that everyone's lights were back on except for those whose werent, and for those people it was going to take about another month. I am feeling very defeated right now, especially after losing a battle with an insurance company, the drugstore and my doctor today. Who wants to move to an island somewhere, raise your hand. Not that they don't have storms there too.
Oh and MY dog keeps getting in the tub anytime anyone takes a bath! I didn't think I was getting a water dog you know. The bathroom door doesn't lock or I'd keep her out that way. Then she bites me when I try to brush her afterwards. Any dog groomers have good tips on getting them to be complacent about being groomed?
