We're getting out to vote!

Good Morning folks! My power and cable has been blinking again. It's fine, they turn it off to fix other blocks. My problem is-there's still wires hanging everywhere. What happens when this stupid Nor'easter comes in tomorrow?

Anyhow, today is clean up the yard day. Raking and bagging. there's no way I'm going to blow the leaves and use gas, so the kids are pretty annoyed with the whole storm thing making them do extra manual labor.

Tired kids don't fight after spending 11 days together. My daughter is cleaning her room today. Danny went up to turn on the vent fan in her closet to draw fireplace heat to the rest of the house...oh boy. You didn't even see his head explosion coming. It seems Little miss has decided to shove everything she doesn't feel like looking at...in her closet. Not good.

I have to take my kitty to the vet-UTI. Ugh. Good thing I bought health insurance for him. (After laying out thousands upon thousands several years ago for my Dobe to have surgery for an obstruction then having to put him down a while later because of pain...I almost lost my house-all my pets are now insured)

Danny just left for Amityville. His cousins house on the canal-under 5 feet of water, so he's got to start gutting it, to redo the whole thing again. This is the 3rd time. A Nor'easter took it out several years ago, then Irene last year caused her to replace all the floors, now the sheetrock, everything has to come out. I understand loving the life on the water-she's got her boat tied 10 feet from her back door...but honestly, I'd have moved after Irene. I just don't have the wherewithall for all of that.

I hope everything is good with everyone. Danny was able to fill his truck yesterday at Hess-he had to show FD id, but they have a pump for them, Cops, and Military. The policeman there told him to call me to fill my truck too. He told him he'd do that tomorrow if need be. Others need the gas more. I have 3/4 of a tank. If anyone needs anything delivered to them-let me know. I'm going into NHP at some time this week, my friends are collecting supplies for Danny's firehouse to bring to Breezy Point, so I have to get the stuff from them. I guess I'll clean out my attic too. It's a good excuse.

Have a great day, folks. I'll be around if I'm needed!!!
My parents live in Amityville too. They didn't flood with Irene but they flooded this time around with about three feet. UGH! Been crazy having them here for over a week while they try and patch up their house (when I say patch, I mean redo). They have 2 huge dogs and a parrot so my house is full. I don't want to complain but their dogs are ruining my new couch (expensive) and my antique wood floors are getting gouged on a daily basis. Trying to cover them with throw rugs but they can't cover everywhere. Couch has throw blankets too but the dogs smell and they are all over it. My mom has been feeding one of them who is spoiled rotten on the couch because he won't eat otherwise.

I'm really about to lose it here and I know that sounds so selfish, especially because my mom would do anything for us. But, its not her, its the dogs. A newfoundland (who drools everywhere) and a collie mix who is just as big. Those dogs, combined with my two little dogs, her parrot and kids being home, I'm so stressed out, I feel like I'm going to explode! Sadly, wine isn't helping either.

Talk about an ungrateful daughter! I'm going out right now for some much needed hen time! Haven't even been able to do that much either.

Thanks for listening!

This afternoon I spent about 25 minutes on a gas line. Got about 15 cars from the front when they closed the station up. Went to another one and after one hour and a half I was able to fill Richards car. Silver lining in all this is I got a ton of knitting done while on line.
Tay safe and warm all.

Donna, go find another couch. I have one if you want it. Too nice to throw to the curb, but not shabby enough to get rid of.
It's even a sofabed. I really need an excuse to get rid of it, Please PM me if you want it.
I forgot where you are, I should be able to deliver it.

Donna I am so sorry. That sounds so sucky. Would it be wrong to suggest the dogs be boarded? At the very least she could not feed the dog on your couch. That's wrong. A dog will eat when it's hungry and there's no excuse for that. I would also gently suggest that she buy some coverlets to put over your couch that can be washed. I think it is very kind of you to take them in but there's no need for her to not be living by your rules in your house.

I think we are all at our breaking point. I came home around 5:00pm to see that many streetlights were on in my neighborhood - except of course, the one across the street from my house. The cable worked for about an hour and then it went out. We just got a robocall from our Mayor declaring that everyone's lights were back on except for those whose werent, and for those people it was going to take about another month. I am feeling very defeated right now, especially after losing a battle with an insurance company, the drugstore and my doctor today. Who wants to move to an island somewhere, raise your hand. Not that they don't have storms there too.

Oh and MY dog keeps getting in the tub anytime anyone takes a bath! I didn't think I was getting a water dog you know. The bathroom door doesn't lock or I'd keep her out that way. Then she bites me when I try to brush her afterwards. Any dog groomers have good tips on getting them to be complacent about being groomed?

I've been keeping an eye on the weather report and I feel so badly that this darned nor'easter is coming right on the heels of the hurricane. No one has even had a chance to recover from the disaster and they are going to be hit again. I feel helpless, not knowing what I can do to help out. Do you think if I were to create and donate handmade crochet hats for girls and babies, that it may be helpful? Tina

Amen to that Heather! Sounds like you had a crummy day.

And no-one needs to feel guilty for any amount of stress you are feeling and going through right now. Big or small.

This storm as affected people in every walk of life...... and it has a resounding effect like a rain drop on a still pond of water. It just spreads out in circles and reaches and touches us all far and wide in every way. So reguardless of how trivial it might sound, just complain away.

Someone here will always be listening.

So tomorrow we weather yet another slap by mother nature. I am hoping not to get a real bad spanking. My butt is still stinging.

Try little treats when grooming and be very calm, firm and patient. She might be sensitive to the comb/brush you are using so try a different or softer one and give her treats when she allows you to brush a stroke or 2. Distract her....hold the treat and get her attention before you touch her with the brush.
I sound like the darn Dog Whisperer...............

I'd love to go away to some quiet Island and forget about time and my list of "got to do tomorrow" things. My brain needs a rest. Ambien take me away..............

I feel sad that life is so shiRty for you guys right now. I really feel helpless as to what I can do.

Donna can you put a barrier up of some kind so the dogs can't go in the living room?its not wrong of you to be ****** off. For years my husband has brought home dogs that have destroyed the place.

Heather, can you try putting your dog up on a table. They will tend to worry more about falling off then being brushed. As a last resort you can try a muzzle. Just remember that they can bite even with it on occasionally .

Islands: I have wanted to go to Costa Rica for almost 15 years now. I'm afraid that if I go I won't come back. (can't leave my chickens and dog..) my son is old enough to come and visit.

Stay safe all.

Thanks for all your replies.

My problems are little compared to everyone else's and that's a fact. I am going to try and keep things in perspective. It's just been one weird strange week! Normally, I beg my mom to come over and now I'm losing patience with her. She is the best and I am going to try and be more gracious. She could try not feeding the one dog by hand on my couch though

and making him get off. He's up there as I write this. All the coverlets in the world and there are many on it, aren't going to stop his nose from dripping through or his claws from digging into the fabric. It's a lazyboy sectional that cost $3400.00. I know that's a lot of money to spend on a couch but we use it constantly and it is super comfortable. Problem is, I don't have those kind of funds again to replace it, nor the funds or the desire to get the floors sanded. Almost all of my furniture is from people's garbage or Craigslist so that couch is my one extravagance.

Roberta, thanks so much for your offer of another couch, that is very kind of you!

Our couch is a huge sectional and I have nowhere to move it to. We had to move furniture around already to make room for them so there is no room to move it. Plus, it is where my father insists on sleeping. Even though we made my son move to the basement so they could have privacy in his bedroom. My husband just finished the basement, seems like it was just in time. Right now, at least half of my parents belongings are in our house.

My mom feels bad for the dogs for having their lives uprooted but I don't. They're living like kings. Boarding them would never be an option for her, she just wouldn't do it which I understand.

Thank god my parents have the funds to fix things immediately, so hopefully they'll be back home soon. They had flood insurance so keeping my fingers crossed that comes through and covers all that was wrecked in the storm.

Heather, I am so sorry you don't have power yet. How could it take another month to get it back? That's insane. I wasn't reading all of the posts, so not sure how you are staying warm.

And now we all have another windy rainy, potentially snowy storm to worry about! shiRt! Please stay safe everyone and I pray that we all maintain our power (and sanity) and for those of us who don't have it, get it back quickly!
