Southern NY, Dutchess county and below

Morning All, everyone's upbeat sense of humor throughout this whole ordeal makes me feel so much better every morning. You guys are the best.
Suzanne, I signed up at Long Island Volenteer Center and am waiting to hear back.
Several of us put together a truck load of stuff and sent it to Breezy Point on Sunday.hopefully when my son comes home he won't notice that he no longer has sneakers, jackets or hiking boots here. Heather, we think alike cause I stuck a can of coffee in the box also.
I convinced my mothers American legion post to knit or crochet a hat then mail them down to me . From what I've read they need hats and gloves.
Stay safe everyone.
Love Carol

A friend of mine finally convinced herself that she will never fit into her size 4 winter coats again. She wore them 20 years ago, 2 kids ago, and 6 sizes ago. I told her if she gets back to that size-I will buy her a NEW size 4 coat, and matching handbag and shoes.
My kids have been going through their shoes, coats, pants, and hats and gloves. It's SO cold outside, and with the storm coming, I'm going to hit walmart and buy their inexpensive rain ponchos too. Everything is warmer when it's dry. I also have probably 30 bottles of shampoo I have stocked that I can part with. They really need personal items. Just washing yourself, makes all the difference in the world when you're down and out. I'm so grateful I am a coupon geek and have so much. This will also impress my husband who thinks I'm a hoarder. I'm not-I'm a planner, and stocker.

Queenchick, I'm sure your son won't notice a thing. Just as my husband won't notice half his shirts and his new socks are missing...

Just checked out weather underground and that storm is suppose to hit us big time. Please everyone stay safe.
They also need cleaning supplies
My husband thinks I'm a hoarder also.if he ever found out how much fabric and yarn I had it would definitely seal the deal.
Years ago I threw away my husbands blue jean and leather motorcycle jacket.i am still reminded of that ( some 20 years later) so I really can't touch any of his stuff ( well I shouldn't)

Ninja time!

Day 8 without power here.

The generator is running to get some heat going. I'm actually working today at 12 and again at 5. Thank God. I need some $$.

I brought in some firewood this morning and fed the chickens down here at the Little House in the Dark Suburbs. More gas foraging is in my future. We had to put 5 gallons into Laura's gas guzzling rental so she can get to work.

76 squares completed on my afghan.

interestingly enough I found my chickens just love un-cooked brown rice. I opened a large bag last night and ya know the story. I saw some moth like stuff in it so closed it back up and brought it outside for them. They were eating it like it was chicken crack!

They never go for it that whay when I give it to them cooked. hmmmmmm

I hope u folks without power get it back TODAY. I can't stand the thought of anyone being cold anymore and the wet weather coming is such a worry now.
Hang tight everyone.

I went to Lindenhurst to help out a friend. One house from the beach.
HOLY CRAP I cannot believe the destruction. I took pictures, and after I showed them to my husband, he didn't seem so mad about the 5-gallons of gas I gave him.
At the beginning of the street, there is a sign, "residents only, looters will be shot."
A lot of gawkers driving around. On car stopped me and asked if there were any animals inside. WHY???? I asked.
They were from the Babylon vet clinic, handing out bags of cat and dog food.
I gave them a donation.
He still needs help, all of his cars were underwater.
I started with his wifes Mercedes. I too often tell people, "If momma ain't happy, ain't NOBODY happy"
I can see the mental pain they are all going through.
Very sad.

Heather.....i might want you to adopt me.:<))) or maybe come back as a pet of yours in my next life.LOLOL

I'm amazed that thebasicneeds for personal items like toiletries and warm clothes are what makes some people the happiest. My sister had a food drive here and they filled seventeen cars . I'm proud of her. I ran to target and cleared them out of toothbrush/paste kits. My father amazed me by finding these coffee in a cans that you pop and shake to heat them up. Everyone stay warm today. Our heat was still out but we got it working last night. Just a reminder...vote if you can :)
