Carol, I received your message and am really sorry. Once the USPS hands over the chicks to FedEx or a commercial carrier there seems to be no way to track the flights. The package is scanned out of the USPS sytem and FedEx does not provide a tracking number to USPS. For some reason, once the birds arrive at JFK or Newark...the USPS neglects to scan them into their system again. Thats why we can't locate our shipments. We sit on pins and needles waiting for them to show up at the Distribution Centers. Unfortunately, I hear that some carriers are putting poultry shipments in cargo containers that are supposed to shield them from dry ice being shipped at the same time. But there is some suspicion that the dry still causes a problem. I'm sending you a big hug!

Call Ideal immediately and tell what happened. They are great to deal with, and hopefully they can replace them asap.
I'm so sorry for all of you.

I did call and they are replacing them. My problem is they will not ship them to me overnight Express mail for any amount of money. I plan on talking to that guy Kevin I contacted at the processing facility in Melville to see if he can help me.my sister started to get a little upidy when I was talking about what could of happened . So before my Irish temper gets the best of me I'll do this myself. My husband is going to spay, declaw and provide a year of heart worm meds this week for her cat and dog though. How nice....
Roberta, do you know someone that lives near the Ideal hatchery in Texas? I'd pay them to pick them up and ship them overnight.

I've asked roberta but will also post here. I know my broody silkie (Snow-ball) is going to go broody as soon as the weather breaks. My plan this year (cause of course she is an un-breakable broody) is to seperate her so the others don't follow suit like they all did last year.....and let her hatch some eggs. When I had all 3 pf my hens go broody I didn't get eggs for months......and I don't want that to happen again.
I will be looking for say 6-10 eggs and want to get them from as close to me as possible to be shipped. Box unmarked of course! LOL It isn't important the breed so much as I want by friendly...hardy, good egg layers so I can re-home them easily here. No bantams please as they are targets when I let them free range the yard.
Appreciate any/all offers so you can pm me or you can write me at
[email protected]

Thanks!

Carol, I think it's time for a road trip to Texas. We'll take Heather and call it house-hunting. Whaddya think???

Any idea when the new babies will be coming? I can at least pick them up in Melville to save one step anyway. Or meet the plane at JFK. Remind me to tell you about going with my cousin to pick up her Havanese at 11pm there. After we got the puppy home she got a call at 1am to say the dog had arrived safely. In Phoenix.

On a different topic (sort of), Clara, the expensive mongrel, was in bigtime pain last night with a bad tooth so I rushed her to the vet first thing this morning. Thank God we caught it early and she was so good the doc didn't have to sedate her to clean her teeth. She's all fresh and clean and taking antibiotics and oral rinse (ever try to get a dog to swish and rinse??). Less than $200 and home in under an hour. It was nice to get a good outcome!! Of course, that means we're two for two. Uh oh.
