Southern NY, Dutchess county and below

I called the Bethpage center and the chicks weren't there.Believe it or not they said they come from JFK ,go to Melville processing center, then to bethpage then back to Melville to be shipped to east Islip. Shocked a stamp doesn't cost ten dollars. I called Melville and talked to a nice guy named Kevin. He checked and they hadn't arrived yet. Said they had numerous delays due to the storm that moved across the country yesterday.he took my number and said that if they come in before 11 when his shift ends he will call me and he'll let me get them there. I can't ask for any more then that.

If you want me to go retrieve the chicks, I'm close to both Bethpage and Melville. Let me know.

Less than two months after we were robbed Allstate dropped us. We had never made a claim before(with them 30 some years)They told us it "absolutely"had nothing to do with it. Ya right. They told us that it was just luck of the draw for us. Apparently that year the insurance companies were allowed to drop some 12%+ of its customers in the northeast due to the increasingly probablyity of severe weather. They said that because we lived south of Sunrise highway( I can see it from the front yard)we were in a flood zone.
You will definitely being this all over Long Island.
Tina I feel bad for you.

He hasn't called yet. That would be great but he's only on for another half hour . So I don't think the girls are going to get into town tonight.
I'll update everyone tomorrow.

Carol, quick call him one more time before he leaves. They have trucks arriving all the time and the next shift might also be willing to check for you.

Well called ideal again . Had them give me the Tracking number again. Only thing they are showing that it left Austin last night around midnight.
Called the PO and it didn't arrive on the 3:30 truck so the next truck is tomorrow morning.
Getting crazy....
Hoping along with everyone else that your chicks get to you safe and sound.

For what it's worth, may I tell you all how I got my pullets mailed to me? Both times that I got a shipment, I had the seller use POST OFFICE EXPRESS MAIL OVERNIGHT SERVICE and address the Live Bird box with the address of my Post Office Distribution Center. My address was not on the box at all. On the box, in BIG BLACK PERMANENT INK lettering, it said my name and my home phone number and the words "HOLD FOR PICKUP" . If I remember correctly, the postage was about $60. Two weeks before the boxes were shipped, I phoned the Distribution Center and told them I was going to do this. They said they would be happy to phone me the minute the Postal Truck got to them from the airport. I then phoned the Distribution Center every other day and reminded them that the package would be coming in a few days. They told me that they had already put a large note on the wall there reminding them to phone me as soon as the box came in. The seller brought the box to her local post office around 4pm in the afternoon, just before the post office closed. That way the birds spent a minimal time in the box. The box came in to my distribution center at around 6am, they called me at around 6:30am, while it was still dark out. I was there about a half hour later knocking on the still-locked doors. The nice lady came right to the door and two minutes later she unlocked the door, handed me the box, locked the doors again, and the pullets were in my coop by 8am. To find out where your Distribution Center is, just call and ask your local post office. It all happened exactly the same a year later when I got a second shipment of two pullets.

Thanks for all the warm thougths and I am so sorry for everyone else that has also gone through this. I am on the border of Poughkeepsie and Hyde Park. From what I learned last night, robberies typically happen in the daytime when folks are out at work. Its called "grab and go", where the thief grabs jewelry and any small things that can be stuffed in their pockets and pawned. Rather than leaving a mess, they leave everything in its place so that at first glance you can't tell if anything is missing. This makes it so much harder to determine what was taken. We never use our front door, so its just by luck that my husband noticed the frame splintered on the inside.
Oh Tina... I'm so sorry about the robbery and the after mess. Horrible. I'm glad you're okay!
I have to tell you all about a slaughterhouse silkie I got yesterday. Oh what a learning curve I am on.

She makes me feel really, really good for saving her. She is learning to walk. ....if you can imagine that.

She is white & the size of a football. I am guessing maybe 4 months?

It's like adopting a little alien from another planet.Good grief it's an eye opener. knowing myself I will be getting into more mischief very soon.........even my sons and dh are talking to her and checking on her all the time to be encouraging. She didn't know how to act like a chicken and I am teaching her how to eat and drink lile a "normal" chicken. It's a bitter sweet feeling. I really think I might call her "little miracle" Because yesterday sure was her very lucky day.

I am taking all necessary health precautions and she'll be seperate from my gang and living in-doors. Thankfully she appears to be healthy and her weight /droppings so far seem normal.

Does anyone know if NYS laws determine if she likely came from NY....... or can poultry be transported over state lines?

I am very curious to know where she might have originated from. Anyone have any input??
Yay! I love a happy ending. Lucky girl!! You're an angel for doing that.
I need a high mucky muck to start a complaint with the post office.
There's a guy that they know about, but refuse to do anything.
He works at the Bethpage depot
Shakes the crap out of any boxes that are labeled eggs.
Our hatch rates suck because of this guy, and I want him hurt. BAD.
I just lost $92. on my last endeavor. All the air cells are scrambled.
This has been going on for years, and it needs to stop.
Yep... seems that way!!! All mine that were labelled "eggs" have been barely hatching. The others were much better. I'd like to open up a can of whoop *** on that guy, personally.

I know a breeder that has cream Brabanters.... even picked up a dozen eggs for Dahlisgrams at the show.
She's upstate NY, it's Marquisella.
Thanks again!!! They're still going strong... lookin' good!

I'm glad you received them safely. It's been hit or miss with so many people having birds and eggs shipped. It's nice to hear.

I hope everyone is safe and healthy in this weird weather we've been having. Sorry if I missed any significant posts... I'm tired tonight and it's entirely possible I skipped something important by mistake.

Good night everyone!

Great comments on your shirts on the page.

I am going to be knee deep in chicks! I just ordered the 5 WCB polish pullets (for those of you who asked to be tacked on to this order, you know who you are, PM me and we can arrange the chicken train), I also ordered 5 assorted polish pullets, 3 RIR, 1 brown leghorn, and 1 Plymouth barred rock. Add that to the 25 mixed bantams, 1 orloff, and brabanters I am in for on Carol's order and the appenzellar spitzhaubens and turkens I hope to get early summer....

Some of the polish order will be up for grabs since I only ordered 15 to avoid the insane small order and shipping fees (more birds, same money).
