Southern NY, Dutchess county and below

Just thought you might be interested in a "robbery" update. Our police department hasn't written up a report yet. And you won't believe this...we received notice that our insurance company is canceling our policy because of our Hurricane Irene claim and the robbery. The cancellation is effective Friday and our mortgage company called to notify us of this yesterday. I was mortified to learn of this.

We must have insurance in order to maintain our mortgage. However, we can't get insurance until this robbery claim is settled. And we can't settle our claim until we get a police report. It is unbelievable! In 30 years, we had never submitted any claims until the hurricane tore up our roof and now they are dropping us like a hot potato. My husband is scrambling and trying to get insurance.
We haven't had a great start to 2013, but I will try to remain optimistic that things will get better.
Holy snot balls. Please call the "7 on your side" news team or something like that. This is just not fair. At all.

I did call and they are replacing them. My problem is they will not ship them to me overnight Express mail for any amount of money. I plan on talking to that guy Kevin I contacted at the processing facility in Melville to see if he can help me.my sister started to get a little upidy when I was talking about what could of happened . So before my Irish temper gets the best of me I'll do this myself. My husband is going to spay, declaw and provide a year of heart worm meds this week for her cat and dog though. How nice....
Roberta, do you know someone that lives near the Ideal hatchery in Texas? I'd pay them to pick them up and ship them overnight.
How can they not ship overnight?? That doesn't make any sense to me whatsoever.

I'm so sorry this happened and they won't work with you. At least they'll replace them!

No Maggie, you can't buy eggs.
I can send them, and reimburse me the shipping, or I can deliver them.
Clyde will be the daddy, and the big girls that are laying right now are:
Coronation Sussex, pure white egg, Lavender Orp, creamy beige, or Marans, dark brown.

She would try to hatch a barnfull if she could cover them all.

I am hoping to distract her till it warms up some as it is just way too cold out there to coop her alone at this point.

I thank you and will see where this goes in the nmext few weeks!

My cuckoo marans pullet layed a 2.8 oz. egg today. She occasionally lays this monster size and it isn't a double yolker. Geez that must hurt..........it's off the size charts.

Hola chickas,

Sorry I went missing, was holding the fort down alone this week while hubby basked in the Florida sunshine (he claimed he was meeting with accountants but I refuse to believe this). Illness, crabbiness, god I am so glad it's the Super Bowl tomorrow and I have an excuse to pig out. Carol I am so sorry about your chicks! I can't believe that happened. I think the midwest had some bad weather though, maybe they got stuck en-route. So sad. While we were away on vacation my oldest daughter's kindergarten class had eggs in, and none of them hatched! I was so upset that I wanted to bring in an incubator and hatch some for them myself. If you have one, I'll see if the teacher is interested in having a hatch again. I can pass the chicks on to you afterwards. What breed did you want?

I would so love a Texas road trip with you gals! I think there would be a lot of BBQ and crocheting. Ideal Hatchery is about 3hrs exactly from where I will be moving to, which for future reference is also not that far from Austin. (Ideal is near Austin, I will be near Dallas). I would absolutely love the excuse to tiptoe out there for a weekend "off" of being a mom and send you guys chicks direct in the mail. Something tells me though that they might not sell direct to the public. I am doing a road trip in the minivan with the girls and the dog to get to Dallas this June/July. My dad said he'd come with us which is actually a relief, I think that'll be a wonderful trip. He and I both have the worst sense of direction ever but since someone was kind enough to invent the GPS system this hardly matters anymore. It'll be an adventure!

I am finally admitting my chickens aren't coming with me, and that it may be a year or two before I can get new ones. This is so sad to me. I can't imagine having to eat grocery store eggs, or just throw out veggie scraps. Ugh. If we get a rental, I'm not even going to be able to plant a garden. Carol I will happily give you all the seeds I saved for this spring's planting, maybe that will make up for the lost babies.

You all will always be welcome at my house in Texas, when we get one. I hope there's a stock fair worth coming out to look at for you all! Oh and Donna I was wearing your team peep sweats all day today and am sad I have to take them off for bed now. These are just too soft. The girls are already sick of me going, "Guess why?" "Chicken thigh!"
