Southern NY, Dutchess county and below

Thanks for all the birthday love, everyone.

Carol, that's so sad about the chickies. I guess the survivors will be pretty tough chicks, huh? I think Roberta needs to start a hatchery here on LI so we'd all have better luck. I volunteer to do deliveries.

I don't know what I like best, the stink eye, the cute puppy or the chick saying "Uh, Mom? Can I have a turn, please?"

Morning All,
Up since 2 tossing and turning wondering how I'm going to dig myself out . By the time I get to the surviving chicks they will be laying eggs.
After back surgery I was never suppose to lift a shovel again. With the torn rotator cuff it's going to be nearly impossible.what ever happened to kids going around the neighborhood shoveling people out?
I can just hear my girls now screaming about that "crazy white stuff" in their pen.
Congratulations Al.
I know if I start knitting I will make a mistake and have to spend twice as much time ripping it out.
Peanut butter and jelly sandwiches taste so good at this time of night.it was that or cereal. What I could really go for is a slice of pizza.
Does anyone play spider solitaire ?
Am I losing my mind?
Goodnight everyone .

Heather, I saw this pic on instagram and was immediately jealous!!! I will have to see about doing a bread, I used to make this super easy bread when I was traveling in hostels, but I forget the **** recipe and man was it good. Not that I need to eat bread, mind you!

Here in Greenlawn, Long Island, we have at least 2 feet of snow so far and it's still snowing! It's a little scary to try and open any doors. Not sure how I will let my little 11 pound doggie out today. My hubby Steve snow blowed last night before we went to bed and it looks like NOTHING was done this morning.

I bought a heavy duty snowblower for our 100+ foot driveway right before the storm and guess what?????????????? It was $1500.00 buckaroos, I kid you not and he tried to snowplow a path for the hens behind the coop where there is all kinds of debris, bricks, sticks, rocks and broke the machine. It grabbed a brick and got stuck and dented the whole inside up. HOLY _ _ _ _! I really appreciate him trying but come on. I had asked him to snow blow a path to the coop but not behind it.

I think he fixed it by banging parts back into place but seriously, it sucks!!! Who has that kind of money to spend and then to see it wrecked on it's first go out, that's just too much!

You have to try this french bread recipe, it was super easy and we already taste tested it. Delicious!

We sprinkled a little swiss cheese in it and on top too. Super yummy. I doubt there will be any by tomorrow morning.

Happy belated birthday Suzanne!!!!!

Well it's sure white out there. I feel fortunate to ONLY have about 8" or so of snow. I feel for you guyus out in L.I.
stay warm and hope everyone is snug as a bug in a rug.

I'm guessing we have somewhat in excess of 2 feet of snow here. A community near us reported 27". Laura left around 7 to go to Mike's so they would be closer to his fire station for calls and an hour later he got called in to work (Greenlawn Water District). So she's snowed in at his house and he's probably not even there!

I almost peed my pants this morning. I opened the back door to let Clara out and she bounded down the steps and disappeared! I never saw a dog move so fast back up the steps. I was laughing so hard I couldn't catch my breath.

I slogged my way through the snow to the coop, but the door is frozen shut. I'm worried because the windows are steamy and I know that's not a good sign.

Bobby got the snowblower all ready, filled it with gas, etc. There's only one problem. It's in the shed...

It sure looks pretty in your yard. From up here we are all watching the coastal areas pick up the snow. There is concern for those folks who were so affected by Sandy, and Red Cross up here is on Alert in case warming areas and shelters are needed. I am hoping it stays at beautiful but manageable.
