Southern NY, Dutchess county and below

Well Richard just spent and hour and a half with the fraud people that handle identity theft for State Farm, our insurance company. We just added it this a month ago.it cost about $40 a year .has already paid for itself in my opinion.
Had to put fraud alerts on all 3 credit co. And dispute the TN address and several inquires by several banks , one in Ohio the other in MN .Oh yah my second home.

I am watching katie curick's show right now and it's all about fraud/scams. amazing!

Well I have to go and have the police fill out a report because it is a crime. Then I have to send copies to the credit report people. They didn't do SHIrT for me 6 years ago when my house was robbed . What makes them think this will do any good. What a joke and a waste of my time.

I never check my credit report because I don't need credit anymore.
I own my house, and cars, and don't need any more credit.
I guess I need to do that anyways.
UGH.

Someone once hacked my Orbitz account and got Bobby and my cousin's credit card info. They charged a flight to Jordan on my cousin's card and tried to get to Egypt on Bobby's. Fortunately, Bobby had mislaid the card and reported it stolen, so it sent up red flags. He never lost the card, it was just a coincidence. But that's how we found out what had happened. I can't buy a decongestant without showing ID, but terrorists can fly back and forth to the Middle East on stolen credit card numbers and it takes a coincidence to find out?

If you want to use your credit card online, call your bank and ask for a one-time use number. That way it can only be used for the purchase you are making. Someone told me this a long time ago...Makes sense.

I never use my card at restaurants (I make Mr. Cash pay) or gas stations. Now that I'm tutoring, I do pay in cash for things a lot more. But I'm not a good target as my credit rating sucks and I have no credit cards, only a debit linked to my bank account which is usually hovering around 0 anyway...

Hugs to you, Carol.

Well it couldn't get any worse. Someone has stolen my identity..Who would want to be me.
Of course my husband is blaming me for it. Why I haven't a clue. I feel pretty helpless at this point.
You try to be a good person and this is the SHIrT that happens. I can't even get my credit report from one of the agencies because I answered the security questions wrong. At least for the new way "Carol" has them answered.

My cell just rang. Amex fraud dept.
An online transaction for $2250.
They declined the charge, and are sending out a new card.

Good grief!!!!!!!!!!!

last year my discover card was run to the limit "online" by someone buying plane tickets to texas.I got my $$ back but was warned to be carefull using cards at the stores themselves now cause people can "scan" them standing a few feet away from me as I check-out??

OMG! This is all so horrible and depressing. This reminds me that I should give an update on our house robbery. We were asked to go to the police station last Thursday to look at photos of what I thought was recovered jewelry. I spent about 2 hours poring over pictures on the computer and was able to identify about 6 pieces of my property.

Unfortunately, it's already been processed by the pawn shop who took in the gold items to be melted. Turns out that 4 guys living together, who needed money for heroin, were robbing homes in my area. One of them had a girlfriend who would accompany them to the robberies. She would knock on the door to see if anyone was home, and if so, would tell the homeowner that she was looking for a lost dog. If no one was home, the house was robbed.

The experience of being at the police station, searching for my jewelry, was very sad. I'm not much of a crier, but I got weepy. Much of the jewelry I lost was given to me by family members who are not alive anymore. When I saw a picture of my 16th birthday ring from my grandparents, I got all blubbery.I was asked by the police to press charges, which I gladly did.

Not nearly as intrusive as your homes broken into .....but a lesson learned here. Last year my son's car parked right at my front door was robbed. GPS and accessories, digital camera/change and nothing to cry about. I told him to walk around the block to our precinct and file a report. He did. We have a lot of oxy/heroin/opium drug problems here on S.I. especially in my very old and quiet ..... out of the way neighborhood. They lay low here because police presence needs to be beefed up.
I am aware of some of the dealers living on my block as well. But last year big bust 8 doors down and homes actually taken away from their owners and children as well.

To make a long story short................cops call 5 months later asking my son to come view some stolen/recovered property. If he had serial numbers of his things to bring them.
Well I had the original box for his gps so voila! And yes his was in the cache of stuff they had. Local boy breaking into cars was caught red handed 1/2 a block away and he gave up some dealers as well He is 35 years old with an oxy addiction.
So now chris is called along with anyone else who filed stolen good and had them recovered to testify at the da's office. Guy is still going to court as of a sentencing hearing yesterday if you can believe it.
But the bottom line was that my son ended up getting an order of protection....which we had no idea about.....it is automatically assigned ....for 1 year.

we see this creep walking near our home all the time as he lives around the block. He is unaware we are who we are cause no addresses are given in any of the paperwork and 22 people testified if you can imagine....no jail time .......detox was it. He awaits another charge/sentencing as well.

that will work in our favor down the road.......like stoopid........I take no prisoners.
