Southern NY, Dutchess county and below

OK, my dear chicken-keeping, feather-friendly folks: Here's my dilemma: First: in the interest of full disclosure, this post has nothing to do with chickens. Nevertheless, I'm posting this here because I know of no other widespread community of genuinely nice people who might possibly be able to solve this for me. So here goes:

There is a luggage set for toddlers that is available for sale online to Canadians. The company will not ship to the USA. I am in New York State. The company is called Heys International, and they are located in Ontario. There is a Heys USA here in the States, but they don't carry this product and cannot access it for me. (Believe me, I've spoken with both companies' sales departments, customer service, supervisors, etc., etc. No way, nada, nuthin doin'!!)

It seems that the only way I can get this luggage set for my little granddaughter's fifth birthday is if some Canadian resident buys the set for me and then ships it to me via their post office or via UPS. I can send the payment via PayPal to the Canadian resident for all costs. (For the set and shipping to the Canadian resident, and for the shipping from the Canadian to me in New York).

The luggage set is comprised of two pieces, a rolling suitcase and a backpack, both designed and decorated to look like a big smiling yellow bumble bee. My granddaughter's nickname is "The Bee" and she's got dresses, slippers, bathing suits, etc., etc., all in bumble bee designs. So this luggage set will make a splendid birthday present for her.

BUT I CAN'T BUY IT BECAUSE I'M NOT IN CANADA!

I called UPS just now and told them the weight of the package and I gave them the Ontario zip code (post code) for the town where the Heys International company is located and asked them for a ballpark figure of shipping costs from there to my zip code in Freeport, NY. They said: $25 for three-day ground service. That's perfectly fine with me!

The company is:
Heys International Ltd. 333 Foster Cres. Suite 1 Misssissauga, Ontario L5R 4E5 Canada

Of course it will keep my shipping costs down for the first leg of the journey if the Canadian resident lives near Heys International and so I'm hoping some Ontario "angel" near post code L5R 4E5 is able and willing to help a fellow BackyardChickensdotcom member in this rather unusual request.

Here's the link to the item so you can see what I'm trying to buy:
http://shop.heys.ca/ProductDetails.asp?ProductCode=Travel_Tots_2pcSet

With shipping and sales tax, the cost would be $73.44 sending it from the company to the Canadian resident assuming said resident is in the same general area of that post code. Then it would be about $25 for the "angel" to ship it to me in Freeport, NY, zip code 11520.

Anybody able to do this for me? or able to pass the request on to some Canadian friend in Ontario who might be the "angel" I'm hoping for? I would of course pay any needed import fees/customs fees etc. But since it's for personal use and not for any commercial purposes, I don't think there will be any (or very little).

If you'd prefer, you can send me a pm here on BYC or you can email me directly at [email protected]

THANK YOU !

These are rather similar, and legally sold in the US, or shipped here! I only know one Canadian, and I'm not sure I'd trust her to do it for you. I hope this helps!!

not the same company..but if its the bee look you want...

Dear Grandma,
Your intentions are honorable. lol
You will need to pay taxes on anything bought Canadian and shipped from that side if from a company .....depending on how/WHO it's shipped FROM if ya get my drift.
The border inspectors determine what packages are opened and inspected etc for content. Can I say "busted" here??
The person shipping said item is held responsible for claiming the TRUE value.
Gift items are under another agenda. But your asking a lot from a stranger.

I wish you success.

Thanks, Magsrags! I know I'm asking a lot, but ever the optimist, I sent my request out into the universe... we shall see what transpires.
I'm naively unaware of how the shipment can be "busted" as I'm not unwilling to claim the true value and will pay the required taxes/duties/custom fees.

Hope this works somehow.

Thanks, Cheeky Chick.

I too, saw those similar sets, but am nevertheless going to keep trying to buy the original set made by Heys International. I may indeed need to set my sights in a more reasonable direction, but for now, I'm going to keep trying.

Thanks for providing me with the sources for the similar sets.

This one is in ny http://www.ebay.com/itm/BACK-TO-SCHOOL-CUTIES-PALS-KIDS-BOY-GIRL-CARRY-ON-LUGGAGE-BACKPACK-BEE-/230975386234?pt=Luggage&hash=item35c734b27a

If not let me know when you need them by and I MIGHT be traveling to canada and MIGHT be able to help. I say might, because It is not set in stone at all, just kind of an idea right now. Not Ontario though. Also I picked up cute pair of bumble bee boots for my daughter . They are clearance right now at Kohls. I paid $3.99 .
Well, thanks, Sallysec.

Nice information. I'm going to keep hoping for the Heys International original. Granddaughter's birthday party is June 15, so we've got a whole month to chase the dream.

Maybe, IF you get to Canada, you might go online there and see what it would cost for you to buy it online and have it sent to wherever it is that you're at. You could always shoot me an email and let me know if it's feasible.

Thanks for your thoughtful and considered reply,

By busted I'd just meant if you tried to avert the taxes due and it was discovered.
Luck!

You can buy it for 150.00 from amazom through Uhmenbackpackbagswomen.blogspot.com . The u at the beginning of the website is lower case. Check to see if it's eligible for free shipping from amazon prime. I have that on my amazon account(my husband and son do).

I got so excited when I saw your post, and I immediately went to the link you suggested. But when I followed it to the amazon page, it said: "Currently unavailable.
We don't know when or if this item will be back in stock."

Oh, well. Back to the drawing board. But THANKS!!!!!!
