Southern NY, Dutchess county and below

Looks like we've gotten a break. No rain for the past hour. Still humid and sticky out there, though.

How are your girls laying lately? Ours have not slowed down yet. That statement of mine will probably put the kiss of death on them laying much from here on.

The daylight switch is happening and although I want fall, I do love and will miss the nice long daylight hours.
DH took a few days off starting today and pulled out shrub stumps while the ground is nice and soft. Wanna get some sod down now to hold the dirt in place or we'll be walking on mud all winter. 2 big arbavores to plant as well.
The work will never end..............
Just spitting here now.

Al, here is the front of my house now painted. Just need to decide on the door colors now and that'll be done. He's begun priming the back already. What a difference.Phew......been a long summer for the poor dh.

Al, my older hens, 6 of them slowed down to between 1 and 3 a day. I think it is due to them starting a molt and the shorter days. Of the 4 new ones 2 are laying daily and the other 2 didn't start to lay yet. So no complaints here. I have soooo much outside work to do and all this rain is putting a damper on it.

Hi Mags The house looks good. I like the paint color. We are in the same boat as you guys with pulling shrubs & trees out. I think we will be cutting up old fallen trees for the rest of our lives in our Pa. home. I havent even gone in 2 acres of our land yet since we bought it last year. The poison ivy laughs at me when I spray poison ivy killer on it! I extended the run another 8 feet so the girls have more room in case we get another year of that crazy snow. Dont even want to think about all the snow again & trying to get water to the girls but it will come! Got some nice winter boots at TSC our new favorite store. The previous owners of the Pa. house left this barrel type composter and I started putting peels, coffee grinds, any veggie scraps, and you have to see the beautiful soil it made for us. Got our neighbor interested in chickens and they now have a dozen and are now asking about my silkies. I think its funny that me growing up in Brooklyn got a person living on 22 acres in Pa. all their lives interested in chickens. Life is Good!

Maggie, am I missing the pic of the front of the house or is it the one you posted with the snow on the ground?

Your hubby has to be tired after painting a house that size. I would get sick just looking at the prospect of it. Lately I am feeling my age and all the projects around the house are taking three times longer than I thought they would. I want a self maintaining house! A condo is looking really good about now except they won't let you keep chickens. Actually a small house in the woods would do me fine. The wife might have other thoughts, though.

My neighbor did it with three hives for about five years. She got disgusted of having colony collapse disorder wipe them out so many times. My neighbor who is right next to me wants to give it a go. I told him I would help out if he really wants to do it. I had entertained the thought last year but passed on it.

OOPS! forgot to attach it.LOL
