Southern NY, Dutchess county and below

Al, I hope you feel better soon. Did you take sudafed? The REAL stuff, that you need to show your license to buy?
I had battled sinus problems for years until I finally had the surgery. And got tested for allergies. Thought it was handled until I found out I'm allergic to parrots. OH WELL.
And yes, I'm serious about the farm thing. I'm not too confident about the "large animal " clause with the town, as I'm really stretching it with the chickens, but if any of you want a spot to call your own, we should talk.
Half of my yard is just going to the weeds....

Roberta, yes, I have the real sudafed. It is the best. I had the sinus and deviated septum surgery last year around this same time. I love fall but something gets me this time of year.

Your farm is a good idea, especially with having a group to keep things working.

Feel better Al, that nastiness went through our house 2 weeks ago.

I'd love to have a small scale farm, but 1) even though I have 5 acres, only 1.5 is useable and my house, yard, pool, garden, and chickens are occupying it. 2) I'd never get approval to change the zoning 3) I can't move until the kiddies are out of school.

Thanks, I'm trying to make the best of it. A little disappointed with the surgery not making this something of the past. Maybe time to start to think about Arizona..

We did that already. Sold out, moved out west, built our dream house. Wound up back in the same town 10 years later.
Just can't get everything else you think you can't live without, outside of NY.
Love the climate, but had lots of other issues. LOTS.

We actually have a time share in Phoenix, and we love it out there. All things considered though I would never move there. I miss having all 4 seasons and would hate not having my family near by.

Hope you feel better, Al. The first year I was teaching I had constant sinus infections and LIVED on antibiotics. Teaching is like working in a petri dish.

It's a good point about continuing the farm. My only child is a 27 year old female firefighter. I don't think she'd go for it! And my significant other is the older of us, so I guess it would be left to me. I hurt for days after weeding my 25 sq. ft. veggie garden, so I can only imagine...

Still, it's nice to think about. For me, it takes the place of planning lessons.

Can't wait to get home to check on Gladys. Bobby's home, so I'm gonna give him a call to see how she's doing. The babies have spilled their water twice in the last 12 hours.

Can't wait to get them in the coop!

Can someone do a little sun dance, please?

Hey Al, sorry to hear you are not up to par. Hope you get better soon. Roberta, I have friends that are very serious about moving moving from Brewster NY to Surprise AZ. I think they are crazy but they have their hearts set on it. Can you tell me some of the issues you had. Only if they aren't personal issues.

Let's just say they become personal after they ruin your lives. The weather is fantastic, but if you have to earn a living, you had better be financially independent before you decide that one. Surprise is in the Phoenix area, the housing market has crashed there as well. As long as they are getting a large enough parcel, the biggest problems there are water rights. I dunno, would have to hear more.
We still would like to get another parcel out west, just not in Utah. Right now my DH is looking out of the country to retire.
This country is getting too weird to make plans on staying.....

Thanks Roberta, I got your PM. They want to move there for the weather and the buying power of a new house. Yes the housing market was hit especially hard in AZ. I myself would not feel comfortable buying into a market like that. Plus from what I have heard AZ is a very depressed state, financially and the way the state Govt is run. Also I couldn't stand living in an oven for 9 months of the year and that "well its a dry heat" is all BS. My oldest son went their for a week in Aug a few years back. He said when he got off the plane the heat hit him in the face like an inferno of "dry" heat. He spent the entire week in a pool or an air conditioned building.
