I want a hot tub!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I'm afraid that hen I told you all about is dying. I feel like I've done all I can. I am going out right now to bring her in one last time and at least make sure she eats something before she goes. She looks horrible, emaciated and withdrawn. UGH! So sad when they get sick and you have no idea why. My friend will do an autopsy on her to find out what has been going on or at least try to find out. Sometime even autopsies show nothing.

I'm so sorry to hear about your hen. Having just lost one of my favorite "girls" I know what you're going through. Just know that you did do all you could. :( I hope you get an answer out of the necropsy.

I have tried with some degree of success boiling the eggs in salt water. Or you could try cracking the egg into a glass heat-safe dish and poaching it in a saucepan. Or rather, over-poaching it until it's firm. Then you don't have to peel at all. I guess it depends on what you're using it for?

I'm obsessed with soufflés right now. If you have a party and there's left-over odds and ends of a cheese platter, there's no better way to use them up than a soufflé. Oh man, sauté an onion, add some greens and mix in with bunch of cheeses... heaven.

I also cleaned our coop from top to bottom today. Ahhhhh the fresh sent of pine shavings.

And I cleaned the coop yesterday too! Guess we were all thinking the same thing, might be the last sunny day for a while, time to get the poop out. I tried using some chopped straw from the landscapers this time and boy not going to do that again. They kicked it everywhere, but mostly into the waterer. I had to clean and refill it three times before they got tired of that little game. Pine shavings only it is.

I did notice that while they were out roaming the yard they seem to particularly relish jumping about on top of the compost pile. I'm not sure that there are worms in there, since they were up on the top, un-decomposed part. Part of me was like, yeah, you turn that over for your lazy mommy, and part of me was wondering if they could be eating something "bad" like their own poo. Ugh. Is it ok to let them trounce around there or should I chase them elsewhere?
