Southern NY, Dutchess county and below

Hi All - I am new to BYC and just scratching around. I stopped in at the Southern NY Thread because I am in NYC - Ozone Park, Queens. Is anyone else within the city limits? We have 4 cochin bantam hens that are a year old this week. (You can see a pic of 3 of them on the swing with my daughter here:http://artmamasays.blogspot.com/2012/03/chicken-whisper.html) It has been an adventure, but I am so glad that we decided to get them. I'd love to hear how others are doing raising city chicks, and I will gladly field any questions others might have for me.

Hi, and welcome to the thread. Glad to see someone from the NYC boroughs dropping in. We need more chicken raisers in the southern part of NYS. Raising city chicks must have its own unique set of challenges. Thanks for offering to answer questions for those in the city. We all try to help each other out. Well I went to check on my friends rooster that was attacked yesterday. Man is he a fighter. His Back has quite a bald spot but otherwise he seems to be doing OK. In the corner of the back yard where the fox had him pinned it looks like someone plucked a bird back there. Keep your finger crossed for him.

I got them from my local Tractor supply. Great price too. $1.99 each. Straight run. I did my best to try and sex out the cockerels.
