I am so gratefull my hustling in the morning days are over and DONE.

I got up at 3:30 am yet again and just can't seem to sleep anymore.

Anyways.........today I will try to blend in 2 youngsters with the bigger girls. Should be interesting.
Then a wait see on the 4 month olds to see what I have here.
Going to run for feed and drop the top on my pony car, perfect weather!
Nice! What a perfect day for it! (The convertible that is)

Wow. I just went out to feed (silence) the chickens. As I was throwing out some scratch for them, they all freaked out and scattered. A hawk flew right over my head and landed on a branch right over the coop. I quickly herded the girls and Leon back into the coop, but while I was doing that, the hawk passed over the yard three times, each time landing on a branch with a good view of the yard. Scary shiRt.

Needless to say, the girls will be spending the day in the run.

Do you think it would help if I put up a sign that says "All You Can Eat Buffet is out of chicken. Try a rat instead."?
Yikes! I'd leave them in the run too.

My mom tried a sign like for her garden. It didn't work.

I also have had a very large hawk eyeing up my girls l;ately. Sitting in a tree right outside their coop and low. Once I love the leaves free range time will have to be supervised once again just like last year.

I do love watching the hawks but the thought of one of the girls as their dinner makes my stomach flop.
Could it be any nicer out there today? Oh to have it like this year round would be heaven on earth.

Personally, I think my hens are all too fat to be lifted of the ground by this particular hawk.

And if we had this weather all the time, would we appreciate it as much? As Lyle Lovett says, "If the night didn't lie in the darkness, the daylight would be hard to find..."

warning... GROSS

I had a full size chicken taken by a hawk. The hawk couldn't get little fatty off the ground, so he did the next best thing.

I found the carcass dangling from her ankle wedged in between the stockade fence pickets.
Picked clean.
I hate hawks.

We have lots of hawks around here. They'll do whatever it takes. Poor chicken.

Hello All; Well I have spent 3 back breaking days working on a new garden with my friend Tony.
Day 1-clean out the old garden
Day 2-go to Bissett and buy 3000 pounds of moss rock(this day doesn't count as work 'cause it's really shopping)
Day 3 -move the 3000# of rock into place
Day 4- lay down garden fabric and 3 yards of top soil
Sat and Sun rest my back; Mon go pick out a tree and large rock as a focus point
I was thinking of letting the girls play in the soil we just put in place then thought better of it cause Tony would kill me if he pulled up and chickens were running around in our project

I can not believe how loud my girls have been this past week

A: It doesn't count as shopping if it goes outside. (Shopping math).
B: Oh, let the girls have some fun! They are the best rototillers I know.
C: My girls have been loud too.
