Southern NY, Dutchess county and below

I feel like in two short months I have completely changed my opinion of keeping chickens. I went from thinking n'never in my lifetime' to ...'someone hide the phone or I might order another' . I'm really looking forward to it, and really didn't realize how much chicken keeping will help in the garden and teaching my son a healthy appreciation for food and pets. Ninja things into the house? Interesting ...

can't wait!
Looking forward to having chicken friends, since most of my current friends think I'm going crazy now lol, that or I'm suffering some kind of post partum that is making me want to mother 13 baby chicks.
Have a great weekend all! ....and where is this flea market? Hehe....

Hey Sally, welcome to our neck of the woods! Yes, are all a little crazy, but since we've managed to find other people just like us, it hardly matters anymore. ;-)

I am so jealous of all you flea market treasure hunters. Something I can't even pretend I'll get to do until ten years from now when I can drag teenage girls with me instead of preschoolers. Husband would be better off not knowing I am bringing in things.....

I got either a pullet bantam egg or a fart egg this morning. So wee and adorable! It looks like a Robin's egg in size. I won't know until it is opened. Either way, it's my first one like it. SO CUTE YOU COULD FAINT!

How old are your children? My son is four and I have a four month old daughter....but one of these days I will run away for some mommy time at a craft show or flea market. Although these next few weekends are for coop building :)

They are 5 and 3 but turning 4 on Monday. 18months apart! We had the youngest's birthday party today at the house b/c she really wanted it at home, and a princess theme. We just invited girls and let me tell you I have never seen so much pink and purple and glitter. We had a lot of fun but I am ex.haus.ted. Took me a month to plan and source supplies. Thank god actually for the age difference being what it is, I have 6 months to recover before the next party in March.

This is post-party, when the sugar high started to wear off. She is currently jumping on the bed and in the recovery/second wind phase of post-party insanity.

This is the fart egg. Of course I didn't put anything next to it for comparison's sake. I'm going to be very surprised if it's a bantam pullet egg since neither of their combs is really red yet. I think I have to open it just to find out. I'm terrible at surprises anyway! Plus my luck if I leave it somewhere the dog will bust into it right as it gets nice and stinky.

This is a better pic of the wee egg - what do you all think?

Top to bottom: Hershey's Kiss, Quarter, Wee Egg, Regular Egg

And this is the cake I just finished frosting for the joint Pop-pop (FIL) and daughter's birthday party:

This is the princess one from earlier today - mmm canned frosting with fluorescent food dye.

Smelled like an air freshener but they were ecstatic beyond words

Mothering 13 chicks and asking about a flea market. Oh yeah. You're in the right place! Can't wait to meet you at one of our "field trips".
