Southern NY, Dutchess county and below

I've beentoldby other Byers that they use Meyer for their orders. If you find out, I would love to know. When I called I was told they use all different reputable sources ...

Can anyone share what testing is needed in order to show our birds...and where I can have it done?

Carolyn252 and I were just discussing this breed....

I may be getting 1 or 2 Cream Legbars in the spring for Lindsey. I only want blue egg layers and not green layers. If anyone wants to split an order next year, possibly from Greenfire Farms, pls let me know.

So, I'm home from the fair. NOBODY was there!

I hung around for 2 hours, talked to the beekeeping guy, admired the chickens, looked around for anyone...nobody.

Maybe next fair. Bethpage is when?
OH nO, I was so beat up from yesterday, that today I didn't get there til 2pm.
Was still loading up birds at 7 pm.

Bethpage is next weekend.
They have proven to me that incompetence must be part of the job description.

I am considering not even exhibiting for fear of my babies getting eaten by raccoons.
The head of the dept complained that it is all Nassau County's fault.
Whatever. No wonder they don't get enough entries. I tried last year, I gave up. This year, I'm done with them.

Were there birds left unattended? Was this at Bethpage? Can you maybe take your babies home with you at night? (I know that's not optimal)
I'll be at Bethpage. I'd love to enter a girl or two in a competition, but if they're not safe-no way.

Oh no... Queens is GREAT!!
Bethpage is the bad egg.

We are getting the run around as to how everything will be secured.
Don't need to lose birds because Bethpage is not up to my standards.
I get the feeling that they are "only chickens" at Bethpage.

Queens... Fantastic show, well run, very fun.
Well worth the drive. It was around 55 miles for me, and it's so easy to get to off the LIE.

It's not a bad drive, but since I never get in that way, I had to stop at Bed Bath and Beyond...my new favorite store. Got my apple peeler/corer/slicer. I LOVE THIS THING. There's not a whole apple left in this house. I also got Yankee candles on sale-my house smells like a pumpkin farm, dipped in cinnamon. From lake Grove I took the NSP at Hauppauge. UGH. Must be the end of the month...cops EVERYWHERE.

Anyhow, if you're going to Bethpage, even to see the other people's chickens, let me know-I'm going to go, might even take the kids. (Provided no football/concussions/ broken arms/ stomach aches)

Was that GIANT buff cochin hen yours?

I fell in love with her-such a sweetie, soft look in her eyes, her size was just amazing. Maybe someday I'll have full sized Cochins. The bee guy was very nice. the Queens farm has always been a favorite of mine. When I lived across the street I used to walk over all the time and just hang out in "the country" they are stringent because they could so easily have law problems. The neighborhood isn't wild about the livestock they have there. I took some pictures of the birds I loved-I'll post them in a bit. The BCM roo was also a favorite-crowing like crazy! I loved the silkies-their crowing is really funny. They listen to the others, head cocked, then let loose in reply. Very cute!

OK Westchester, Putnam and Dutchess County peeps, I'm visiting this week from Los Angeles - I'll be flying in on the red eye Thursday morning landing at 6:50 a.m. I'm driving up to Ancram (just inside Columbia County) from JFK and my friend doesn't get off work until 5, so I have the whole day to make the drive through your lovely towns.

Any suggestions on places I should see, shop, eat? I'll be taking Route 22. I'm a knitter/crocheter/weaver, obviously I raise chickens and I would spend all of my time doing those things and reading if given the opportunity.

Thanks for your help!!!
