Southern NY, Dutchess county and below

Carolyn, I already have you covered. I got some chicks at Agway a few weeks ago, and I vaccinated them when we got home.
Have about a dozen to pick from

Good morning everyone! Wanted to post a pic of a double yoked I got last week. That's it in my hand. My hands are as big as most mens hands so that's a pretty large egg. I think one of my buff orp pullets laid it.
Cool biiig egg! What kind of yell did she let out when she laid THAT? Woah! I made egg cupcakes this morning, with baby spinach and mozzarella. Everyone loved them but joe- he's the finicky kid. I guess there's one in every bunch! I've been busily finishing my crochet squares. On the last one and getting ready to ship them out. Toooo muuuuch woooork! Kidding- it was fun but during the holidays...yikes! Did anyone play powerball? 500 mil!! I may spend the 2 bucks on a ticket...can you imagine winning that kind of money? I can't. I'd probably still clip coupons! Sent from my iPhone 4s using Tapatalk

Maggie, Thanks for offering to phone Schuster's farm to ask about Marek vaccination. Could you also ask him if he'd raise two Pullets for me until they are four months old; I'd pay him for them now. (Not quite sure how I'd get them from New Jersey to Long Island, but I'll figure that out when the time comes. I've got some NJ relatives and they've got friends in NJ & in NY, so some sort of relay could be arranged I'm sure. I can easily take the train to NY's Penn Station and pick them up there from somebody.) Where in NJ is Schuster's Farm located?
-Carolyn. (The Marek's vaccination is pivotal, so if he doesn't vaccinate, all my questions are academic.)
i'll ask him!

Good Morning All! Glad everyone had a nice Thanksgiving (I only caught up on the past ten or so pages). It has been such a crazy month. We are still recovering from everything going on here and the process is so slow. Went out of town for a weekend. The Chicks aren't chicks anymore...these babies got huge!! So I still don't have names, I mean I toss a few around but can't get anything to stick. They have such personalities too! I have two that like to be cuddled (LMFAO@myself for cuddling chickens). I have one that most likely will be named trouble or brat... I am headed back out of town unexpectedly for december to be with my FIL while he has surgery/recovery in Illinois. I should be back the day before christmas eve. I really have missed reading about you guys and your lives as it feels like happy therapy. I have two sick children and two sick adults to take care of right now :(

Will post some pictures later of the girls.

Hang in there through this crazy season, I won't be on much but hopefully I can stop in and say hello .

P.S. We just got our agent out from allstate, new roof (sighs) and ofcourse they only want half of it done at their cost. We are going to try to wait until spring since half the companies here are overflowing with work and we need to add more space to this house anyways.

My blrw occasionally gives me a giant double yolker.

Now everyone remember, these I bought as a test to make sure I don't have any more disease in hy house....
So far, everyone is fine!
I have 4 Buff Orps, 2 White Brahmas, and 12 EEs.
I tried to pick out as many different colors as there was, so that's why so many.
I have to check out the hatch date, they are over a month old already.
Also vaccinated them for Coryza, and they need a redose in 3 weeks.
I wanted to keep a few for myself, and was actually planning on selling them at the Congress, so if anyone wants, let me know and I'll hold some back.

Suzanne, I have a job offer for you. 2 days, helping me at my jewelery booth, they just gave me the OK to sell there.
Jan 19-20, but I will check in on the 18th. And was thinking if you have anything chicken related, bring it along, and sell!
Don't know if you can be away for 3 days, but the offer's there.

I forgot you make jewelry! Do you have pics of your things?

Oh shirt you guys. The Cooper's hawk was back this morning. I haven't let them outside once since the last attack, and then I left them with the dog. Everything was fine. The dog was being a bit of a pest to them so I brought her in for no joke, less than 5 mins and then I realize there is chaos and noise. I run out and the freaking hawk is IN THE COOP! It was flapping against the addition part and screeching, I guess it wasn't happy at being contained. I went in with my sand rake and gave it a little whack with the flat side across its back and then it flew away. I wasn't trying to hurt it just scare it. Then I rounded everyone up and sure enough, Nutmeg is MIA. I have no idea what happened. I've been looking for her for two hours and no sign of her. Everyone is very quiet though and not making any noise, which is just as well since a Red Tail did a fly-by of the yard while I was out with the dog. I found a small feather pile of my E.E.'s feathers, and she was the one that was in the nesting box while the hawk was in the "aviary" part of the coop. I still haven't found any of Nutmeg's feathers. Tell me is there anyway a hawk could take off with my bird and not pull out some feathers in the process? I am holding onto the hope that she is just hiding really really well until dark.

Dammit. I feel like such a jerk for letting them out. :(
