I wanna join this hatch-a-long. I have 29 eggs incubating. One chick hatched on April 7.

Quote: some of this sounds normal, but I do see your point, sometimes there is that ONE that just is a btch

Yesterdays hatch-

4 isabelle leghorns, 5 Silverudd Blue's, 2 Dark Brown Leghorns

OMYYYYYYYYY goodnesssssss

Quote: I love it!! I would do my best to make it so you dont have to physycally go into it to collect eggs and change out feed waterers. You know how many times you go there and how nasty the floor can get with poo! I always like outside access and even from an area where chickens are not allowed! that makes for clean shoes, less of a bio hazard too!

this is an example of what I mean
I can do all waterers/feeders and open windows and run door, etc from a CLEAN chicken free side of the coop so we dont have to step into any crud or mudd at anytime

Pallet COOP ~

Saloon COOP

And even when we did our shed conversion we made it poop free

used the left main door as the front pen door too! just latches closed on the2x3 center wall

Sally you have the cutest coops and runs. I love how the kids decorated them. So practical too.

WECLOME OVER!!!!

Wow! @Sally Sunshine love your coops! My husband just built an addition to our coop. It's almost done. I'm trying to get him to make me a laying box hatch so I can just collect eggs from outside. We'll see if that happens though. I don't want to push my luck! I'm really just happy to have another coop!

What kind of parrot is that? Very pretty.
Awesome!! did you post pics of it? you need to stick to your guns as your going to be the one running out and doing it all the time!! I cant stand when he does something other than what I say I need! We need things to look nice AND IT HAS to WORK best for US not them! LOL

I am not sure there is a cunure pamphlet with him, dont know what kind though???

A day early won't hurt. Best to get things right anyway! Good luck, I'm in lock down, day 20. Still no pips. So, since it's day 20, I took a couple out and candled..they still have a good day left before even a pip should happen. Maybe tomorrow...good luck again. :)
x2 GOOD LUCK!!

So silly me. Set 6 more Silkie eggs today. No more! 31 total set. Hatch will go on for 3 days. I couldnt resist. My 4 pullets hatched August 2015 have all started to lay this week!

Here's photo of two of the babies:
awwwwwww CONGRATS~~~!!!!!

okay I am curious now is there a place with picture to see how to trim the feathers from the private part of a hen???? my wheaten marans and my amerucanas fertility is not what it should be.
i get chicks but lots of infertile too.
most my wheaten are old too They are the friz line which could be the problem. maybe it is their fluffy bottoms..
I swore I would never trim a chickens bottom to get it bred. BUT I think I can try as a experiment LOL. Totally addicted.....This is proof of it !!!!!

I did the deed today. It wasn't bad at all. He didn't like being flipped upside down, but he didn't flinch at all. I used a pliers, so I could get a good handle and pulled one feather at a time. It went pretty quickly, and you can hardly tell that I did anything unless you were looking for it. I also did it with one of the hens. Hopefully it will make a difference.

So, I have 3 emus out of their eggs, 2nd one was out this morning and 3rd one just now. It had a weird bloody navel so I put some gauze on it with ointment. The three are curled up in a towel. I think the second one is a little nervous or gets cold when I open the lid.

#4 egg is still alive. It is badly positioned so I am just hoping for the best but not expecting too much. I realized it was backwards in the egg and I figured it was close to the others in readiness to hatch so I made a small hole in the non air cell end to try to get it some air but I think I released the vacuum that was keeping it packed in that end so now it has more room and has spread out filling the air cell end. It is an odd situation. It hasn't absorbed the yolk but is still hanging in there. So who knows, at least it has a chance. They are such big babies, they seem very strong to me.

First baby is sitting up and I took him/her out to have a drink earlier. What a big beak! So cute. I am going to get some sort of brooder set up, I think I have a plan, just not sure where to put it!

Soooooo

Broody should be hatching in the next 2 days

My Eggs that were LOST

That were SUPPOSED to be here on the 7th

(So I could put another batch in the Bator for the April HAL)

Were held up and SHOULD be here tomorrow.

Hopefully there is a May HAL....

Plus I have lockdown on the 15th or 16th for another batch

I really wanted 3 batches this month

Oh Well

How exciting, and it must be a little nerve racking for you too.

I've got a pip! Looks more like a crack at this point, but hopefully I'll have a new little NN chick tomorrow. Hope the other two hatch as well, though one may not. It was funky looking when I candled, might have quit around day 14 or so as I could see through parts of the shell when moving my flashlight around on the shell. Either way, one is on the way. I'm going to be good and keep my anxious fingers away from the hatcher this time (no touchy, self!)
