Starlight’s Training Adventure!

Star is very sweet and usually very calm so she surprised me when she spooked while I was leading her yesterday. Does anyone have any tips? After a while I managed to get her to walk past the spot that she was spooking, I did not want her to think that spooking got her out of work. Do yearlings usually go through some sort of disrespectful spook phase? It seems like one day she was leading fine then the next she is acting spooky.

Sorry that it has been a while since I last posted. Star is doing good now and I am slowly reintroducing her to being lead outside of the barn. She has not spooked since last Tuesday and she has recently taken another leap of trust and is starting to let me lead her blindfolded! :yesss: This requires her to trust me a lot and has helped her not be as spooky.

Today I braided five simple cute braids into Star’s mane! Does anyone have any other braids that I could try in her mane? Here’s a pic:

How cute! I've never tried any other braids than what you did there (the woes of only riding lesson horses and also never having time ;)) but I've seen them where the mane is braided down the crest, at the top, in one long braid...I could try to find a pic if you don't know what I'm talking about.

I'm sure there are other people who have better advice, or even tutorials online!

Aw, she’s beautiful :love
I miss having horses! All the yearlings I’ve handled have gone through spooky stages. One day, perfectly well-trained and marvellous, the next day terrified of their own shadow
Keep at it. Sounds like you’re building quite a strong bond with her already!

Thank you so much! You don’t know how relieved I am to hear that! I was worried that I was doing something wrong . Star is already slowly getting back to the level she used to be on.

Cool! I will try to do that braid in her mane. (though it probably won’t be very good ;)) but still will be fun to try!
