Hey Ron (or anyone else) - I've been searching for brisket recipes, do you have a great one? If so, would you mind sending it to me? I do not have a smoker, so that is not an option for me.

I will admit it, I have never cooked a brisket.

Going to fix that soon.

Brisket cooks low and slow in the oven. Does your family like tomato things or spicy things?

Spice up the brisket with your favorite spice rub, pre packaged or:

2 tablespoons chili powder
2 tablespoons salt
1 tablespoon garlic powder
1 tablespoon onion powder
1 tablespoon ground black pepper
1 tablespoon sugar
2 teaspoons dry mustard
1 bay leaf, crushed

A liquid, like beef stock goes on the bottom of a baking dish, but you could use crushed tomatoes. It should be about a half of an inch of liquid.

It bakes for 3 hours or until it is fork tender.

Finally, after months of trying, I rehomed one rooster, who is now 23 weeks old. Some guy wanted him because his rooster wasn't producing fertile eggs anymore. Though I had Ira up on the flyer at the co-op for free, he insisted on paying me something for him. So, Ira is not happy tonight, I'm sure. Sounds like he will be colder than he's used to, since this man from what he said (didn't speak English all that well), doesn't have a "nice building" as he called our coops, sounded like a lean to or shed with fencing wrapped in plastic to keep out the wind, but he has a chance for his own hens now. I know he isn't going to be eaten, though I was close to doing that myself with Ira.

It's been impossible to sell or rehome birds this year, even pullets. If I'd had some hens, this man would have taken some, but I barely have enough young ones coming up for my own egg needs, only three pullets ranging from 12 to 24 weeks old. And no one wants the bantams, even for zero to $5 for two pair. At least those don't eat much.

Love the hummingbird clip! Ours are all gone for the year.

Tucker looks guilty. Well, he appears remorseful too! Just look at that face.... yes, very remorseful.

I saw this little cookie jar on the local "bid it" on facebook. I thought it was cute, so I bought it for $7. This is rather odd of me - I don't really want to add more, as I am still decreasing junk.

Kathy! I think I saw the very same one in the local consignment shop! I am going back to check it out tomorrow.

At least he will have his own girls and be out of the wind! Congrats on placing him.

Kathy in MO I think the chicken cookie jar is cute. :)

Thanks Ron, I'll try it, but it might be too spicy for my youngest. I hear from friends that it's good when you braise it in beer. I found a few recipes that called for beer, so I'm going to try them too. (I have several briskets to use up)

Glad you found him a home.

That is cute. My house is expanding in stuff. My grandmother sold her house, so we have to clean it out. I got some of her family heirlooms. She wants me to have her china also, and I'm trying to clean out cabinets to find the room.

We don't either.

Yes, any liquid for the braise and any spice rub you like. A Memphis BBQ rub would be great and is not too spicy.

Play with it!

I often get meat from a place in Esparto called Manas Meats. It is a local butcher shop and the meat is very good from there.
