Oh Mary I am so sorry and very empathetic. My broody lost a second chick today too except I have no idea where this one went. My fences in the runs don't go all the way to the ground so it probably got out and couldn't figure out how to get back in. She is down to one left now. I am so sad for her. Probably lose the last one tomorrow.

Well, I'm heartsick. I let Elska and the three Araucana chicks she hatched for me out of their pen when I came home for lunch. When I got home I went out to check and she only had one chick with her. I found the other two in the water pan I had in the coop for the flock...

..didn't even think they could reach it but there was bedding mounded up in places and somehow they got into the water and couldn't get out. It was a beautiful day, why weren't they outside enjoying it?!

Lesson learned.....the hard way.

I am so sorry to hear this! Do not beat yourself up stuff happens!

I believe it! I went to his place to pick up hatching eggs and Jason was out working on pens and it sounded like he was going to cough up a lung....

Oh Mary, I'm so sorry.

I know how you feel, I've lost a few chicks to water dishes. The absolute worst are silkies. They can drown in a small water dish when they are a couple of months old already.
