I tried a new take on an Egg McMuffin this morning. Instead of serving an oval of hash browns on the side, I cooked mine in round patties, covered them with cheese, then served them on the sandwich! Oh, and I use regular bacon instead of Canadian bacon. The only negative comment was that the hash browns could have been crispier to which I replied, "Then you should have gotten out of bed sooner and they would have been!"

p.s. I started my online food photography course on Friday. Hopefully these pictures will get better!

umm yum.... breakfast at Mary's next week

I am a nervous wreck. I moved my four layers, of which one only lays and that is once a week at best, in with the Icelandics in the big coop. That freed up a smaller coop for my dark egg layers. They are four weeks old today and I need the brooder they are in for the cream legbar chicks. So, I moved the dark egg layers into the coop formerly occupied by the "layers." It is outside! And not insulated. I cleaned it thoroughly although it wasn't very messy from just four girls. I put a very thick layer of shavings down so they would have to dig like crazy to get through to the slippery vinyl. I thought the shavings would also add warmth. Then I hung my premier heat lamp about 18 inches from the floor. It is secured with screws, brackets, zip ties and everything else you can think of! This is the one I used.

It is supposed to be very safe. The cord is super long so I was able to run it out the roof vent and plug it in next door at the little yellow house. I checked on them a few minutes ago and they were huddled in a corner away from the heat. They are used to an EcoGlow. So I made a huddle box out of a cardboard box with a side cut out. I put it under the light with the top and one side open. They were starting to cautiously approach the box as I watched from outside. I will check them again later and if they aren't in the huddle box, I will put them in a four sided box with the top only open. Probably one night is all they will need to figure out when the heat is.

Tomorrow I will clean the big brooder in the brooder house and move my cream legbars out there. I am hoping to get my second Eco-glow back from Michael's daughter soon. I have eggs hatching in a couple of week then I set a bunch more yesterday. I want to put a divider in the big brooder and use both EcoGlows in there.

I am going to be out there checking those babies every hour till I go to bed!

This is the heat lamp I use in my shed grow out pen. I loved it so much I bought a second one. They are so well made.

I also bought the tripod to suspend it and I've had no trouble with birds trying to perch on it.

I would probably love to try some after I get the hatches done that I have going right now. I have 108 eggs in my incubator!
