I clean the grill on my Weber by getting the coals real hot and scraping it with a wire brush.

No one has gotten sick yet.....

Yes, I do that too to clean the grate. (but mine is gas BBQ) What needed cleaning was under the grill where all the greasy gunk goes. It needs a good scraping once in a while and empty the grease tray.

Got it done, and pork chops are grilling at the moment.

Grilling is a year round thing here, the BBQ is on the deck by the front door and under a roof.

Tonight, DH has been waxing nostalgic about a fried bologna sandwich like his mother made for him (in the 40's, LOL). So I went to the deli counter and bought a CHUNK of bologna. I'm updating it a bit, it's going on ciabatta bread with melted Havarti cheese.

No, not this time. This grill hasn't been cleaned in years. I filled a shop vac with all the charred mess in the bottom. It wasn't just the grate it was everything. Been sitting out in the yard with a cover over it. Major nasty with burned on stuff and rust. It still looks like hell but we shouldn't die eating off it.

Tomorrow I will tackle the smoker. I am too tired to do anymore today.

Make sure to get the spider webs out of the air vent for the burner. Boogers can clog up the works terribly.

I wanted to play the piano and got stuck with the Clarinet. I hated loathed the clarinet. The dog howled every time I practiced.

I'm glad to hear your FIL's service was nice Cyn.

I despised the clarinet. My mother was the sort of mother who could not separate her personal and academic interests from mine. She played clarinet; I had to play clarinet; and it made my overbite far worse. The dentist even told her *before* I was signed up for band that I should not play a single reed instrument - and he listed them all off for her. It was a miracle I finished high school, given I took all sorts of foreign languages (which I hated) because she loved foreign languages. I enjoyed vocational agriculture; she made me drop it for another language as a junior. It seemed every subject I wanted to take was one she wouldn't let me take because either people would think the wrong thing or I allegedly wouldn't enjoy it because she hadn't. I really wanted to take business courses and vocational agriculture so I could get a job at more than minimum wage after high school as my mother had informed me that college wasn't an option for me as employers of college graduates probably wouldn't want me because of my handicap and unattractive appearance. So I graduated to minimum wage work and it took me ten years to earn a degree.

I am also glad that the service for Cyn's father-in-law was one that he would have enjoyed. Funerals are for the living, but it is nice when they acknowledge the real person who died.

I clean mine each time I use it by turning it up all the way for about 15 minutes after I'm done grilling - chars off most stuff. Then I just brush it a little next time we grill. Gives a nice charcoal flavor to the next meal
