Anyone know what this is? It was just in my yard. Is tall with a big top knot. It flew away before I could get a good shot.



Oops asked too soon. I answered my own question. I think it's a Steller Jay.

Yep, looks like a Steller's Jay to me. They are gorgeous birds.

Haha before I scrolled I thought, hm, that looks like some kind of Jay. Then I saw the second picture! yay I was (partly) right!

I have been freezing since yesterday and I thought our heat pump was out again. We just had it installed this year. Michael went down to check it and found this! Apparently the "defrost" function is not working. Michael is going to try to melt the ice with water and reboot before calling the installer. It's always something.

And yep, Stellar Jay, sometimes called Mountain Jay as well. They are more common in the mountains.
