Receipt of Stolen Goods is a crime, so the new guy's already in trouble whether he knows it or not.

Depends on IF he knew the uncle told him it was stolen beforehand... that's receiving...
Whereas if he didn't know, then it's possession.

Cross a state line and you get a federal charge... no longer in the yokels hands.
Of course, it could turn out the guy is a fence... then deep doodie.
Maybe a call to the FBI would be in order... just in case... as per earlier notes on corruption, but also it may be the only way to find your horse... I donno.
