Stop Dressing Your Daughter Like A...

I have a little one year old boy and another on the way (couldn't figure out gender), and being 20 myself and having just come from the teen age, all I can say is YUCK! I couldn't stand school, and I can't stand driving by them now. What happened to the cute dresses and t-shirts that actually COVERED girls? Why are little girls wearing spaghetti strap, low cut tank tops?! And we really wonder why our girls are targeted by perverts?! *Sigh* I've been griping about this since I can remember. Girls are dressed so skankily these days that you can hardly tell the difference from a teen magazine and a porno. I don't know what I'm going to do when my kiddos get older. I'm the type of person who wears shirts that cover everything (generally t-shirts to be honest) and LONG skirts that cover my ankles. There're little girls that run around showing more skin than my husband sees half the time.

I was standing in line at the deli the other day behind a mom and her (about) 8 yr old daughter. She was a bouncy, cute, chubby, curly -haired little doll. She was dancing around so much that her low cut jeans slipped a little. Of course, her mom thoughtfully gave them a tug to cover the child's THONG. I'm glad my DD is raised and my DIL is a sensible mom.

Chickenfeathers :

Very well said and if I may say very well written. Your rant was enjoyable to read. I feel your pain, if it makes you feel any better my 14 yr old DD loves the burlap sack's I make her wear.

I am soooo glad I have a boy!!! I taught him to always be respectful to women and from I have seen he is.... I saw a little girl about 2 years old at the mall, with her hair in a pigtail (cute) and a Midriff top with sequins and low rise jeans, and HIGH HEELS! OH DEAR.

I dont see nothing wrong with my DDs wearing a shirt that has skinny straps on a hot summer day as long as the tummy doesnt stick out. Why should we cover like we are i the 1800's.Its flipping hot in the summer in Florida and short are neccasary. Nobody should ever say "No wonder she got raped ,look how she dresses" that is judgemental. Jon-Benet Ramseys murder had nothing to do with her clothes or her pageants. If at all it had something to do with her dads bonus he got from work. My DD used to do pageants, he enjoyed it and she even has earned some college money with it.
Right now my DDs wear long jeans with some rhinestones or embroidery on the legs when we go somewhere and sweatshirts or sweaters . In school all my kids have to wear uniform.

Just found this post and it is so true. I am the mother of a 15 year old. To make her clothes comfortable for her I buy her lots of the tanks with the little straps in many colors. She then layers them under the cute but low cut tops. She will not wear either item out of the house by itself, but together they cover what she wants to cover - thank goodness.

Though she has no issues with short shorts. But then I grew up in the era of mini skirts and HOT pants. We shop discount stores and find gems - enough to give her a flexible wardrobe.

As a 6th grade teacher I have had to have very uncomfortable conversations with parents - usually moms. I try to explain that what their DD is choosing to wear to school reveals too much. Their response? "Are you telling me my daughter dresses like a slut?" I have to modify my answer and say that their DD is dressing like they are MUCH older.... sigh

Having 3 girls, I have fought this battle for many years!!

www.Landsend.com has many very modest outfits (including swim suits). They are a little pricey, but they wear VERY WELL!! If you buy a little on the large size they will be great!! They are pretty and colorful and will not be shunned as "weird".

Good Luck!!
