Strangest/Funniest Places Your Free Range Hens Lay

One time I found a stash in the center of a stack of Christmas wreaths in a Rubbermaid...

And the most time-saving hens EVER just happened to lay their eggs in a couple of egg cartons on a shelf in the garage. View attachment 1728810
OhMaGosh! The Christmas wreaths!
I feel a dangerous inspiration coming on ... Cluckmas Carols! I apologize ahead of time to the writers of "Deck the Halls!"

Deck the halls with eggs so jolly.
Fa-la-la-la-laaa, La-la-la-la,
Ribbons, red are such sweet folly.
Fa-la-la-la-laaa, La-la-la-la,
Snub we now those plain next boxes
Fa-la-la, La-la-la, La-la-laaaa,
Trimmings hide us from the foxes,
Fa-la-la-la-laaa, La-la-la-CLUCK!

Oh dear ... This could be habit-forming ...

Well, since I didn't have time to react to take a picture, my black hen totally did not lay a random egg in the middle of my yard. And I totally did not discover it, because my pit bull totally didn't pick it up and bring it to me. There was no look on her face that suggested she was thinking, "Here, I found this, Momma..." I was totally not amazed that her mouth was soft enough to pick up and carry that egg without breaking it.
That vicious pibble is totally not an angel...
'Cause no pictures, didn't happen. :)

View attachment 1718760 I accidentally left the top off of the 30 gallon feed bin and found an egg in there. Ha ha but didn’t have my camera with me at the time. Then there was once or twice in the chimnea fire pit
To me, this is not so farfetched. I actually do keep a chimnea in my run as a nesting box, and it works great! My old girls love it, especially my 10 year old EE who can't get around so well anymore.

My pitbull does the same thing except she runs off with it and hides them in different places.

I found a couple eggs waayyy under the back porch once. Then for a few days one was laying right next to the roosters run. I have a lone rooster I keep separate from the flock and a couple eggs were laid right next to the run, all out in the open.

Sometimes I find eggs on the poop boards in the coop, or out in the run. Behind the storage shed I have some things stacked up. Like extra T-posts, scrap lumber, rain barrel, just random stuff. I was grabbing something and found about 30 eggs under one of those cement gutter run off things you put on the ground under your gutter drain. It was leaned up against the shed and she crawled under there for weeks it seems.

Any eggs I find that are not in the nest boxes I throw out. No telling how long they have been out there.
