This is not a debate on breed folks! There is good and bad in all including humans. That is the reality. If we can't stick to topic I WILL issue warnings or what ever it takes to keep this civil.

Glad to hear the update Talos. And WELL SAID!

Personally I hope their ban on animals is lifetime.

Talos - thank you so much for the update. I am happy to hear that the chicken killer is going away. I hope it doesnt cause trouble for his sister too. Please continue to let us know how Mrs. White is doing as you hear.

Please refer to rules:

4. No Trolling (posting to provoke others, luring them to flame or rant). Trolling is sometimes done involuntary, so please be considerate when posting.
5. No teasing, mocking, ridiculing, or otherwise making fun at other member's expense.

There are many on this forum whom I have no doubts are following the outcome of this one. Thread has been cleaned up and there is no reason why it can't stay open and civil for those who wish to stay informed on the situation.

Wow all I can say is wow, this is everything that could go wrong with this breed/type of dog. My sincere heartfelt apologies and condolences go out to Talos and Mrs White. I see this thread turned into a "my dog never would of done it" or "they are all vicious killers" and am even a contributor of that mentality, but not any more, I will always make sure that any dog of mine is well contained - the worst or last thing I want to hear as a toothed beast is charging me is "don't worry he wont bite." yeah idiot he wont bite you (not yet anyways).

I think your situation is unique and a comedy of errors in a McCabe way, not funny by the least. There is no doubt that this breed/type is less apt to attack a human than most common household dogs but when it does it does with a fervor that is unmatched, jaws designed by man to do unspeakable harm.

It is only too bad that a sweet old lady had to become a martyr for your cause and then afterwards the law to become interested, no gripe on the police but they only seem to help after the fact.

As quoted by Ben Franklin "God helps those who help themselves" it is not godly or even found in the bible, but sure does make since - next time use what a Spartan would use - a spear, or in the modern age a bang stick. Too bad you can't do to the dogs owners what needs to be done, we are a evolved society and insomuch can not exact retaliatory revenge - but for gas and meals I will civilize your problems. j/k

pits had no reputation until the early 80's. They where used to herd cattle on farms for years. there jaw does not lock. they are the most powerful dog in the world therefore they can be trained to be vicious and fight which is terrible but responsible raising they are sweet. But if fought once they want more.

As freshegg has said the pits jaws do not lock, that is a myth, but they can and will make you think it. By the way why do you think they sell and for good reason a break stick device to open a pits mouth.

A break stick is a device made to be inserted in the mouth of a Pit Bull (behind the molars) to pry its jaws open and release its grip on another animal or object. Slide it in sideways and twist to open - thats how my dentist did it in the 60's for me.

now tell me again why a kid or lazy adult should own this animal

I have been following this thread, but choose not to comment on breed or the other topics discussed. I just wanted to say that I hope Mrs. White comes home soon. Prayers will be sent her way. Send a big

to Mrs. White for me!!!

Poor Mrs. White! I feel so badly for her that in her later years she has to endure such a thing!

I'm very happy however to hear that the local police and animal control seem to be doing their jobs to the best of their abilities (Not always the case) and that the puppies have been removed and the dog taken away. Even better that the other nieghbor seems to have had an eye opening and has decided to rehome his dog where it can be better housed. Allthough, I do hope that the sister is TRULEY better suited for the dog and that he isn't just passing it along to his sister to escape ridicule. Let's hope.

I'm glad the post has been kept open.... I think that it's important that these kinds of conversations take place. As much as I love APBTs and as much as I realize that you cannot lump every dog of the breed into the monster catergory.... I also believe that it does a disservice to try and pretend like they are all big huge babies that would never hurt a fly. I think it's important for people to realize that getting a power breed requires an extra amount of knowledge, work, training and control, and that when something does happen, just how extremely bad it can be. There are lessons here.

Keeping Mrs. White in my thoughts! I'm glad your dog problem has solved itself Talos, but such a shame that it had to come about in this way

I wish the update on this poor lady was better. I'm praying for her.

I'm also sorry that so many people who own dogs, aggressive or otherwise, don't take better care of them and this is the result.

I'm not for breed bans, pemits or any of that. Like gun bans, etc, it just means the law abiding citizens are the ones who lose out. AND look at us - there are many here (including possibly myself....never really checked those zoning laws because the only way to do that here is to call zoning and then you are on the radar) who are keeping chickens, or more than the 'rule', or more roosters, etc against the law in their community. Pass all the laws you want, there is no money, time or energy to enforce that type of law - you just end up penalizing the responsible owners and only dealing effectively with those where someone complains loudly or there is an attack like this.

Let's face it - there are already good leash/containment laws on the books in most every community. And look at how many 'the neighbor's dog ate my chickens" posts we see here on an almost daily basis.

What I wish for is good old decent human responsibility. Occasionally true accidents do happen, where properly contained dogs just get out. And responsible owners own up to it and take their lumps, and proper action to ensure it never happens again. But, this was a clear cut case of just gross negligence and irresponsibilty with the fencing you described.

My mom is about the same age as Ms White and when I think of this poor woman I see my own mom lying there all broken up and in pain.... it's just so senseless and preventable.
