Well said, arlee. I hope Mrs. White is able to recover. It makes me sick to my stomach thinking about it.

Talos, You should complain to your local newspaper. I have been checking online, and the Gaffney newspaper doesn't have anything online about poor Mrs. White. I have been thinking about her and looking for news. They need some new reporters at that paper!

I'm glad the other neighbor rehomed his dog. I just hope it doesn't end of being a menace somewhere else. Around here we haven't had a problem with pit bulls. We have had problems with labs, a doberman, a husky/wolf cross and the current menaces are rhodesian ridgebacks.

Please tell Mrs White that everybody is praying for her. Would it lift her spirits if she were to suddenly receive get well cards from across the country? I know I would send one.
Jody

I woke up thinking about Mrs White and came here to see how she is doing, poor lady.

Breed aside, if I admire a dog and the owner says, "Go ahead and pet him, he won't bite!" I stay away. Those owners are the ones who see nothing until it is too late. Now an owner who says "Thanks! Here let me introduce you!" and kneels and holds his dog while I extend my hand in friendship is the one I will trust and respect.

As with any animal, dog, guard goose, etc. you have to have your own eyes wide open to the behaviors and potential behaviors. Adn keep it under control.

I too have been following this post. I am praying for Mrs. White and I really hope that she recovers fully. My prayers and thoughts are with you.

I have posted on dog threads before, it is so sad that dogs can turn so bad and hurt but they do. Being a trainer and rescuer of problem dogs, I do have some experience in the field. I have done considerable training and rescuing of problem dogs. Never trust a dog period but having said that I do have considerable experience with the breed, frankly alot of difficult types of dogs, They are an animal, not human, in my experience the problem comes with dogs and aggression can be many reasons and not just how they are raised, some dogs are genetically deficient, bad breeding etc, If you raise a dog with discipline and boundries chances are they will turn out well adjusted animals, but even with that I have seen dogs go bad and all breeds not just Bully breeds. There is no ryhme or reason to it. Even with children if they are raised without discipline and spoiled they have a chance to turn out not a complete grown up. Same with dogs can be said.

It does come down to responsibility and so many dog owners claim no responsibility for their dogs actions. The worse dog bite I have ever had was from a black lab I was trying to retrain. I have experienced bites from pit bulls too and they are not fun either. They can be a good companion dog but not for the weak of heart or the inexperienced. A bully breed dog needs excersise, consistancy, boundries and discipline with that they can turn out quite well. I have one just like that but he also knows his boundries and what is or isnt allowed. I am alpha of that relationship and he knows it.

I am sorry got on my soap box but this is a dear subject to me and my heart goes out to people who get hurt by someone's elses irresponsibilities and it is so sad. Dog attacks can pull strong emotions from people.

For hope that not all bully breeds are bad. Pit Bulls and chickens can co-exist, My Kody is the best example.

DITTO!!!

I read only talos post to find out about Mrs. White - getting into another debate about these dogs is useless.

It makes me sick to think about this poor lady – I hope she recovers soon and will be in my thoughts.

I think he's just eyeing that pan of watermelon - yummy! My dogs can't resist that sweet liquidy goodness...I think they would take watermelon over freshly caught chicken any day.

As far as cards - I'd love to send one to her as well if the family doesn't mind. We could send to the hospital address if they are reluctant to give a home address (and I wouldn't blame them for that!) - unfortunately it sounds like she'll be there for a while...

my goodness this is quite a thread. i am so sorry to hear about your poor neighbor. i have said a prayer for her.

i have some neighbors who let all their dogs run loose.... they have pekinese, pugs, goldens. well the male golden ran up to me one time when i was in my driveway and bit me. (not playing.) to keep the peace, i just kicked him and got him away from him by hopping over my fence....but a few weeks ago seems that dog disappeared. i think he bit the wrong person and went to doggy heaven.

i agree with the poster who said you should make sure the owners are smart enough to have a dog. i think that should go for any animal. probably for children too.
