My sister has several dogs...lost count really. She tends to collect pit bulls and claims they are so sweet and the only bad pit bull is one who was raised by "bad people". To date her pit bulls have seriously injured one of her other dogs, killed 3 of her cats and killed several chickens. BTW, it was her blind pit bull who killed 3 cats! She had a Rottie/Wolf mix who attacked the neighbors little kids and had to be put down. None of these dogs were ever disciplined for anything in the home, never beaten, basically spoiled rotten. This is what she calls the "right" way to raise dogs. Judging by her feelings about "bad" people raising "bad" dogs, I have a feeling she is like all the other folks who assume that if their pit bull is nice to them and their family, it will be nice to everyone. Its true that the little ankle biters can be truly mean but they are not going to lock onto your throat and rip it out, either. The basic truth is that the pit bulls and Rottweilers have a bit more power to their jaws than do other basic breeds, therefor, they can render more damage. My sister thought she had control over the Rottie/Wolf mix too, she had it on a lead when it heard the neighbor's children screaming and playing next door.....the dog's 100 lbs of muscle were no match for my sister and it dragged her across the yard before she could even think. She lost her grip on the lead and, if the man had not been close with a rake in his hands, one of those kids could have been killed. You may think you have a large dog under control, but, if push comes to shove, can you control it with a mere leash? This same dog had never shown any aggression before, was very sweet and loving. The man had to knock it down several times with the rake, while it growled and lunged at the children time and again. By that time, his wife had gotten the children inside and the police were called. My sister was very angry that she had to put this dog down. Do you see the mentality at work here?
