Stupid Neighbors Pit Bull (update 2nd neighbors dog attacked person)

I have spoken to the owners. They consider chickens pretty much invaluable. Their dogs are considered "babies" so they do not discipline/keep it in check. The dog doesn't even respond to them calling it. He has the mentality of "Oops my dog got away again, here's 5.00 or 10.00 for your chicken. " When I told him his dog tried to bite me he went around the world explaining that his dog wouldn't hurt a fly when he already knows it rammed into a chain link kennel till it bent the door latch inwards.

That's the gist of it, the owners just do not care that when their dog escapes it kills other people's animals and tries to bite people. They do not care when I told him that niece and nephew play in my yard and could be attacked. They do not care that the elderly people across the street have grandchildren and it could bite them too. All I get is excuses that his dog is not vicious and here is some cheap compensation for your trouble.

I agree that it's the owner's fault. What is the chicken owner to do though? I mean they are in a steel cage with a concrete floor but, they are still not safe.

I agree..... sucks to be the dog, but sometimes it's better to consider the many over the one or the few.

Did ya ever stop to think that the dog wants to be put out of it's missery living with such idiots can't be easy.

I found it very interesting that lovethechickens asked if you had a fence and how the dog got on your property. You were on your property and so weren't your animals. Shouldn't the people with the roaming dog have the fence seeing as their dog doesn't stay home. This is a sore subject with me as my daughters dog was attacked by 3 of the neighbor's dogs, while he was in his own yard (never leaves it) with my daughter standing right there. That lady who has no shots or tags for her dogs (who run the neighborhood terrorising everyone) got nothing. My daughter who has shots and tags for her dog, who was in his own yard, got a off the leash ticket, as she admitted that her dog was off the leash and the lady said it wasn't her dogs who attacked my daughters dog. We went to court for that and was the judge mad, he threw it out of court. That lady still has her dogs running and animal control does nothing.

Bottom line your animals were contained on your property. The animal displayed aggressive behavior. Now you are living in fear. I personally comend you for trying to give the neighbors a chance to be decent. I wouldn't give them a second chance. But then my son still carries the scars on his face from a dog who wouldn't hurt a flea, nope he didn't hurt a flea, he tore the face off a little 4 year old boy who was playing in the sand with a truck. Didn't even bark or growl just tore his face off. Hospital said it was the worse dog attack they have ever seen and that my son should of been dead. Our animal control (same as my daughters) said that the boy must of done something to provoke the dog, yup playing in the sand will set most dogs off.

Good luck hope you don't regret letting that dog live.

Oh MY Goddess, Jean!

I hope you sued the idiot so and so's...

I would've said something to the ACO too...How DARE he even insinuate that your son did something to provoke the attack... :thun

My Sister's oldest daughter was bitten in the face by the family German Shepherd, not just once but TWICE...because the dad wanted to be a policeman and policemen have German Shepherds...

On the brighter side, Victoria LOVES dogs still...

Some people shouldn't have anything more time consuming than a pet rock.

The 2nd neighbors pit dog with the puppies escaped and just mauled an old lady in her front yard about an hour ago. The dog was taken to be put down and the owner arrested. The old lady (Mrs. White) had her arms and face in shreds and was taken to the hospital. I could just see this happening.

Thanks SpottedCrow I have some pretty nasty pics of him but that wasn't nothing to the daily torture of draining those bites till they healed and the daily trips to hospital for anitibotic IV's. My son also quit talking for 2 years not one word. That put him way behind in school and at 16 he is still playing catch up. We had a great dog patch a beagle terrier mix best dog and that is the only reason my son is still an animal lover. It was my nephews dog. He kept the dog till his wife threatened to leave him because it kept going after their too boys both under the age of 1.

Talos321, I will keep that neighbor in my prayers. I sure hope the neighbors get together to support her in this time of healing, for it is not fun. If she even makes it, as an elderly woman she may not, shock does horriable things to you. Not to mention the infections all dog bites have. Not fun I am just devestated to hear this. I relive the nightmare every time I hear of this.

That separating dogs thing can be really really dangerous...I had a person visit my farm who told this story: she said she had taken in a grown Rottie a few days before. She also had a male Chihuahua as a long time pet. The Chihuahua, probably having said a nasty word to the Rottie, was about to be jumped by the Rottie so the owner, snatched the Chih up into her arms, high, kind of swinging around to pull the Chih out of reach. The Rottie, trying to get at the Chihuahua literally ripped her scalp off. This is not an exaggeration...She showed me the scars on her head where her scalp was sewed back. The Chihuahua was injured (don't remember if it survived.) The husband of this lady shot the Rottie while waiting on the ambulance.

I'd have shot that dog y'all are talking about a looong time ago. I do believe that in SC you can defend yourself and your livestock. As I said elsewhere, the law (as of 10 or more years back when I was farming) had been slackened from a right to outright kill a dog "worrying" livestock, to if a dog was "worrying" livestock, you had to make a "reasonable effort" to "drive it off"...I HOPE they've gone back to the old way....BUT if you are defending animals you can shoot. However, if there is nothing to defend (like all killed) you can get in trouble for shooting the dog with a stupid animal control officer and judge. A sneering animal control officer told me the story of a guy shooting a dog as it left the yard with the last dead chicken in it's jaws. Because all the chickens were dead, the chicken farmer was charged. I'm glad to say that animal control officer lasted about a week. Most others we have had are supportive of defending your livestock and handling problem dogs quickly.

There are also "dangerous dog" laws in SC and I would say a dog that has attacked your dog is enough to get him some heavy restrictions now and eventually a dirt nap if the dog is deemed dangerous. The old three free bites rule, I'm told is no longer in effect. Whether an attack is "provoked" or not seems to be important. I would think it would be unprovoked in your own yard!

This dog absolutely MUST be killed, end of story. He is a dangerous weapon, and he WILL kill again, whether it is your chicken, a neighbor's cat, or somebody's child. For the sake of everyone, please get rid of the dog right away.

If you shoot the dog, it is best not to say a word to anybody. You will not get into trouble if there are no witnesses!

I knew a guy who had a pack of hunting dogs. They had radio collars on, so they could be tracked while hunting. Well, one of the dogs didn't come back, so they tried to locate the dog. Eventually, they found a spot where the radio collar was beeping. They called the police, and told the landowner to give them back their dog. But the landowner said he didn't have the dog. So the guy tracked the dog's radio collar to a spot in the man's yard. Right there in front of the police officer, the landowner dug up the dog, with his beeping radio collar. The dog had been shot and buried in the landowner's yard. However, the landowner was not charged with anything, because there were no witnesses that could prove he shot the dog!

Don't know if it is just some backwoods North Carolina justice or what, but I was very impressed with this! Not good if you are the dog owner, but GReat if you are the angry landowner!

Get rid of this dog any way you can. I've heard of putting a dish of soda out, so the dog will drink it and die. Make sure all your pets are inside though! Also, call animal control and politely demand that they come set up live traps. That is their job, and they are paid tax dollars to do it. Tell them there is an aggressive pit bull that is always getting in your yard, killing your pets and growling at you. It is their duty to put traps in your yard. They have to do it. Please do whatever you can to get rid of the dogs!

P.S. My husband was attacked by 2 pitts, and he almost bled to death. They popped 3 of his work truck tires, and if he hadn't drove out of there on 3 popped tires, he would not be here today. I am so serious about this--Please get rid of that dog!
