Hello,

I'm wondering if anyone has any suggestions for supporting chickens during smokey conditions due to wildfires? The fires aren't near us but the smoke is quite bad. I've limited their exercise to their run so that they are not exerting themselves, as well as providing consistently fresh water. Does anyone have any suggestions as to how else I can support them? I'm wondering if some grapefruit seed extract might also help?

Thanks in advance!

One of the things chickens need when exposed to very smoky conditions is fresh air to flush out the pollution from their respiratory systems. I realize you are probably suffering as much as your chickens. Is it possible for you to bring them into the house to sleep at night so they can breathe cleaner air?

Also, moist air would help. If you have a vaporizer, you could set it up where you quarter the chickens for the night.

Fires have been especially bad here this summer, too. I believe there will be a lot of us who will be very relieved to have this summer over with.
