Summer 2012 Granny "Square" Swap (sign ups closed)

Quote: IDK. I only tried one other fabric stiffener brand and it was not very stiff after 5 treatments. If the kids are not hanging beads from their flakes then it is not as important. Try it and if it doesn't work use the washable Elmer's school glue over it (dilute half and half with water) and let it dry for a couple of days. I used the diluted glue over one that was not stiff enough and it worked great. It held the glitter I sprinkled on it, while it was wet, really well too. Just takes at least 24 hours to dry.

I just went on to the National Weather Service page.

I know Mainers are hardy folks used to bad storms but this one looks very scary! I sure hope this storm loses some of it's strength soon!

Raining and damp but nothing as far as wind yet. I have to do a few errands this morning while its pretty mild out there. Hopefully it won't be too bad. Praying for those in the path of both storms!!

Wooo Hooo got my squares today. Just finished looking at them, thanks everyone they are beautiful, I'll take pics and post them. Sunny loved the gift it is beautiful and very nice of you.

Settling in and counted my swap squares. I've made 23, though only 7 have been de-tailed. The plan is to make 35, then choose which 18 to send in. Spreading them out was fun. They look nice together.

Maingigi-I'm glad you are safe. You probably know this, but the most important thing is to have plenty of water. We can go without power and food for a while, but not water. Please take care. I'm offering merit for you and all who are affected by the storm.

Oops. The information on the squares was meant for the Fall swap thread. The message for Mainegigi still applies.

I just heard that Sandy is gaining in strength right now! Usually the opposite happens as a storm moves north. The warmer temps you guys are getting right now is to blame for that. Usually you all are much colder than we are here but right now your lows are actually 10-15 degrees higher than ours are here. That will not help weaken the storm! The storm surge expected for some areas could be devastating. :( We also are praying for the safety of loved ones. We have family in the NY area so are watching this storm pretty closely.

YEA!!! That is the last box that was mailed so you can all say the word snowflake now. lol Though I think I let it slip already anyway. They make great ornaments or light catchers in windows but the stiffener is water soluble so if they get wet they will soften up again. The good news is, if they get dirty they can just be washed, dried and restiffened. You can pin the flakes into different shapes to get a new look before stiffening. I had so much fun playing around with them.

I was also thinking about the snow flakes if a person were to do a lot of them, paint the wall blue and use them as "wall paper" over the blue it would be an awesome decorative wall treatment.
