Summer 2012 Granny "Square" Swap (sign ups closed)

That owl is adorable.

I feel for all of you who are in the cold. I am in South Carolina for the remainder of the Winter to be in a milder climate. That being said, I'm not out much. I injured my knee while in transit and am advised to rest it until after the MRI, which will determine whether I need to see an orthopedist or whether I can start exercising it. I hope to be back walking soon and, until then, I can crochet.

Such an adorable owl, and good rodent control. As long as you don't have any young chicks seems as good a place to live as any. lol

It's a little warmer here. My water didn't freeze last night so it stayed over 25. I hope it stays for a while.

Look what I found in my chicken coop. It's still there too as it doesn't want to leave. Must be the mice. It's a Burrowing Owl and the first I've ever seen. It's such a little thing.

Cute little owl! We don't get any small owls around here. At least I've never seen any. Just the big guys. It is still staying in the single digits here at night but at least it is up to 8 degrees. It was 1 degree above zero for a couple of nights up here. Sooooo cold! We were so spoiled last winter, It was such a mild winter. It's making up for it this year.

So sorry about your knee! I hope it heals quickly! Well at least you have a nice mild climate to recuperate in.

The cold weather does have a few benefits. It sure makes for some interesting crystal formations (from the freezing fog we've been getting). When you catch it just as the sun is burning through the fog but the air is still cold enough that the crystals in the air have not melted, it looks like tiny pieces of glitter floating all around you. It's really a spectacular site!

What an interesting formation on the wire. I guess there is beauty everywhere. My friendly owl seems to come and go and since the hens and rooster don't mind then I don't. It's fun to see it and the peacock that hangs around. He seems to prefer my house to his even though Sadie chases him up a tree at least twice a day. I finished pruning roses today but didn't rake up the cuttings. They are for another day. It's so nice out I hate to stay in. This nice weather won't last though. It will turn winter again and along with it will come the wind which I hate.

Yeah I gotta agree about the wind. It is horrible! I never knew what wind was until we moved up here.

I love that the animal realm is so lively at your place. We have some interesting birds (wild) here: great blue heron, Canada geese, kingfisher and cardinals. The cardinals see their reflections in the windows and keep pecking to get those "other" birds to go away.

I'm jealous. I've never seen a cardinal up close. They look so pretty on TV and Red is my favorite color.

I never thought there would be a place that didn't have Cardinals in the U.S. they are everywhere here. Here is a link to my bird album on FB, you should be able to see even if you don't have FB, there are only a few cardinals though. Alot of the pics were taken in and around my home, and many in local zoos.
