Summer 2012 Granny "Square" Swap (sign ups closed)

Beth~ YAY!!! Our first rectangle pic posting!!!!

That looks great!!! Thanks for sharing. I'm going to try Hobby Lobby for the other 2 colors, but may have to end up ordering them as well. I think JoAnn's is having another online FREE shipping special.

That is a pretty block. Can't wait to get started on mine. The runner I'm doing in blue is getting easier as I don't have to look at the pattern as much. I can see what to do from what I've already crocheted.

You can use filet crochet to put words in a block. I did an alphabet crib blanket that way once. You can also make butterflies, birds, etc. using the same technique and then granny square the edging around the block.

Sunny I don't envy you moving. We've been here 6 years now and the thought of moving turns me green. This is where I'll stay. The fans are making a big difference. I don't know why I didn't think of it sooner. It was hot again today but should cool down tomorrow and be down in the 80's by Tuesday. The Okra is blooming and I should have tomatoes, summer squash and maybe a zucchini or two by Tuesday. My flower garden is blooming up a storm also. This has been the best year yet for hollyhocks. I even have gladiolas in bloom.

Love the rectangle and appreciate the link! Just realized you are in Bardstown... my daughter lives in Pewee Valley.

I am going to have to put all my stuff away for the next two weeks. I leave in the morning for Baltimore, will be spending the weekend in Connecticut (I get to see my mother!

) and will be back in Baltimore the following week.

I will get home the evening of the 14th, just in time to help my son move into his own apartment on the 15th.

Not sure if I should be happy or cry but am thinking I miss him being here ... but am pretty sure it will take a bit.

I ended up ordering the Royal Blue and Pearl Mist. I really wanted one of the sparkly ones, and it seems like I never have time to go to the bigger cities and shop, so Mr. UPS is going to bring it to me :)

I made one of the rectangles--it was a lot easier than I thought it was going to be. I've got to work the next couple of days so I might not get much crocheting done. *sigh* I've really had fun this weekend working the different patterns and seeing the ones everyone else is posting :)

Hey everybody~

Beth~ Thank you so much for sharing the rectangle link. I book marked it. I have 2 books that have rectangle patterns in it, but they don't indicate what size they make and I haven't had a chance to try them.

Here's the books if anyone wants to take a look at them. I remember Betty & Sunny have the Motif book.
Leisure Arts ~ 99 Granny Squares To Crochet
Beyond The Square Crochet Motifs by Edie Eckman

Betty~ So glad your window units are giving you some relief. That's awesome your garden is producing nicely. I really miss my huge veggie/herb bed. I did pot up some containers of herbs b/c I love to cook with fresh ones. Maybe next year I will have the time to put in a small garden. I can't wait to see your table runner.

Kathy~ Have a great visit with your mom. I know what you mean about missing your son when he moves out. My DD just graduated from high school on May 19th and then left May 27th for 6 weeks to work as a camp counselor at a Catholic Youth Camp. She will get home sometime after July 7th, but then moves in the college dorm on Aug 16th.

She's only been gone to work a little over a week, but I miss her. I might go down there and spend the weekend with her. BTW~ Forgot to tell you how much I loved your personal touch you added to your labels in the last swap.

Sunny~ THANKS again for hosting this swap!!!! I'm really excited over the pretty jewel tone yarn. I hope all is going well building the coop at your new place. You are such an awesome hostess to have so much going on, but to be here for all us. THANK YOU BUNCHES!!!!

Everyone keep those pics coming!

I'm off to mail DD another care package. I'll go to the PO that has a Hobby Lobby close by, so I can pop over there and check out their yarn.

I hope everyone has a great Monday!!!!

I was finally able to get to JoAnn's this afternoon and bought the Red Heart Super Saver ~Cafe' Latte & Lion's Brand Vanna's Choice ~Cranberry. Then I headed over to Michael's and bought Caron Simply Soft~ Lavender Blue. Yippeeeeee!!!
wee.gif

So the only colors I haven't been able to find is Caron Simply Soft~ Royal Sparkle and Lion Brand Vanna's Choice~ Pearl Mist. I know we only need to choose 2, but wanted all the colors in case I want to make extra solid squares to add to my afghan to tie in all the pretty swaps.

Now I'm picturing the Cranberry and Cafe Latte together... Think I will have to try those two together.
Quote: Unfortunately I am also picturing the Pearl and the blue together but didn't buy the pearl! Arrrgh! I think I may have to buy more colors cause I want to use them all now!!!

Love these colors too. Really like the rectangle granny. I'm so happy we decided to try the different shapes!

This word block is a very simple filet crochet block. I think I am going to have to get good at this cause the variety of designs you can get using this method is so cool!

I'm so jealous of your garden! We do finally have flowers blooming though. And I have been able to harvest plenty of salad greens from under my grow lights. I could have planted much of what I started if it weren't for the move. No sense in planting something here when I can't harvest it. Hope these starts survive til we move this coming weekend.

I found Lion Brands/Vanna's Choice ~ Pearl Mist at Hobby Lobby, but didn't find the Royal Sparkle.

Oh well, finding all but one isn't too bad. It only took me going to 4 stores to find them.

Now that's what I call yarn-aholic!!!!

I went a head and picked up some more yarn for DD's afghan since I'm getting low and know I will need more to complete. I romise to take a pic of the monster soon. I'll have to figure out how to display it to get it in a photo.

Ooooooo Sunny, both those color combos sound cool together!!!
