Summer 2012 Granny "Square" Swap (sign ups closed)

Hello everyone! We are almost finished moving!!!
ya.gif
Just have the dog's shed and some outside items to move this evening. We took a few hours off to have dinner for my B-day friday. Felt a little guilty for taking some time for ourselves but we had a great time. It was nice to take a break.

Hope everyone is doing well! HookedOnStitch pmed me to say she is very excited to be part of the swap. She has been busy with other projects but will stop by to check in soon. Hopefully she will share some pics with us when she gets a chance.

Wal Mart had the Plum Perfect!!!
Woo Hoo! Thanks for the b-day wishes on FB. :) I can let it quietly slip by here on BYC but that's not possible on FB.
Good morning. It's going to be another windy day but hope it doesn't get too bad. I took pix of the blue runner and another doily called "wheat" I thought you'd like to see, so will upload them to this spot. I still haven't chosen a pattern yet but still looking. There's plenty of time and part of the fun is looking for yarn and patterns and even trying a few even if yu decide later you don't like them. I'm about finished with another doily and I had problems all the way through because the directions were printed wrong such as a finished row was to have 382 single crochet but to follow directions you ended up with 390. My math worked it out. Another was chain 10 and single crochet four times but it should have read double crochet. I have three rows left and they'll work out right thank goodness. Everyone have a good weekend

.
I agree with Kim! Those are just gorgeous Betty!!! What is up wityh all the wind these days? It doesn't seem to want to let up here the past few days.
Betty ~ Oh my goodness!! Those are so pretty!!!! I love it when you finally get something finished and then can sit and look at it.

How long did it take you to do them?? I don't think I'm ready for a project quite that big--I don't think I would have enough patience. One day, maybe....

I finally got a couple of squash, green peppers and cherry tomatoes from the garden. Should make a tasty addition to supper tonight.

DH and I have been working outside cutting trim for the coop and it is quite warm outside (though nothing like some of you have had). We're taking a break and cooling off before supper, but hopefully can get the rest finished tonight.

I'm trying a new pattern (http://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/julieannys-stained-glass-afghan-square). It's really pretty, but has a few stitches that I'm not as familiar with. Hopefully YouTube can get me through it.

Everyone stay cool and have a great weekend!
You too Beth! Good luck on the coop!
Good Morning~

I am so jealous of everyone's fresh veggies!!! YUM!!! Growing your own is the best! We use to have a huge veggie/herb bed and I miss it. I's can lots of salsa and basil speg sauce and hubby would can garlic dill pickles. We'd freeze a lot of the non acidic veggies. Oh sigh...maybe next year I can have a smaller version garden again. I've been scouting out a location that has enough
sun. I did pot up some of my fav herbs and put them on the back patio and they seem to be getting enough sun.

Here's #2 & #3 of my complete swap squares.

I'm with ya on missing the garden. I started a bunch of stuff but the move put all that on hold and now most of it didn't make it. It sat under the grow lights for too long.
Love the squares Kim! And thanks for all the well wishes on the move! I think they are really helping since things are going much more smoothly now!

Happy Birthday Sunny. Glad you're almost finished moving. My daughter and her family will probably move back down here next month and I don't envy them a 1000 mile move with five dogs. Her husband is unable to work anymore due to heart and back problems and she's not in the best of health so most of the move will be by her and the two boys. They play football so they're strong enough.

Glad you like the doilies. You all can crochet well with practice. Remember I've been crocheting since I was 12 so I've been crocheting 60 years. The old saying "practice makes perfect" is true.

This wind is about to drive me nuts. Why we're having so much of it is beyond me except I know it's caused by high pressure systems. Enough is enough though. I like to be outside and I can't when it blows like this. The dust is aweful and the air quality is bad and I can't keep my house clean.

I like the blocks that are posted. I tried one this afternoon that I don't like and I'm working on another. It's a 12" block in a pineapple pattern. It only uses one color though.

Betty- Thank you for the encouragement. I think single colored blocks are sometimes good,. Pineapples are so interesting that I think they'd be fine in one color.

I'm sick of the wind too, we have a constant hot wind. I'm also tired of hearing about fires in CO that aren't even half the size of the smallest fires in NM but they are rich, so they get attention. We are trying to move horses to safety, raise food for the abandoned animals and those left at the shelters because their homes have burned down. We have an arsonist on the loose in Chaparral, they hit the 3rd business on the same street tonight! I'm trying to work on the squares, and I have no creativity because I'm exhausted. After this week though I have no more trainings or anything going on at the university, just a few trips to show people dinosaur tracks and trace fossils, and a couple of trips to the volcanic fields. Those are fun though and I even get paid to play escort!

Hello swappers~

I tried a new pattern last night but it ended up a wee bit too big. I'll have to either try tighter gauges or use a smaller G size hook to see if that will fix the size if I want to use the pattern.

I'm so sorry to hear about all the heat, wind & fire issues. My family & friends in my home town of Fla are watching to see what tropical storm Debby will do. They do need the rain, but not a hurricane. Who knows what the crazy storm will do. As of this morning I think it's weakening. It's heating up here, but not anything like what most of you are experiencing.

Sunny~ I bet you can't wait to be completely moved. Sounds like you are getting so close. YAY!!!

Betty~ Yes thanks for the encourgement. I hope w/ practice I can become a better crocheter and faster. I have the hardest time reading patterns sometimes. There is so many things I want to make. Can't wait to see your pineapple block.

Kate~ My creativity is definitely stifled. My sleep pattern is out of whack. Lack of sleep has me so draggy and I feel fuzzy brained. That's why I started w/ a pattern I've already done a few times. I always have to re-learn it, but it comes easier than learning a new one.

My baby peeps are growing. I think I got most of them in mid March, so they are able 3 months old now. I heard a crackly baby Cock a Doodle Do.

Pretty sure it's coming from the yellowish EE that was suppose to be sexed as a pullet. ARRGGGG!!!! Oh well that is the way it goes with the 98% accuracy with sexing.

Good to hear your DD & SIL have the boys to help. I think that's why this move was so hard. We didn't have the kids to help. I've althe ready warned them that the next time we move they will need to take time off to help the "old folks" move. My Dad is moving in with us for a couple of months but he has been nice enough to put his move off for a couple more weeks to give us time to rest. :)

I love the one color blocks too. Actually, that depends on the pattern. Some blocks seem to look more interesting with more than one color and others just get too busy looking if I try to use more than one color.

I'm glad I am not the only one that is fed up with this wind!!! I really need it to calm down so I can finish fences for my animal runs. :(

I haven't been tuning in to the news since we have been working all hours of the day, those fires sound terrible!!! I didn't hear about the ones in CO either. I am so out of the loop and I normally like to stay caught up on the news. How bad is it? I hope you aren't in danger!

Fire is one of the few natural disasters that really scare me!

Sure hope the storm peeters out and your family stays safe!
Yes we are getting very close now! Hoping we will get the last of it tonight but it might take one more run tomorrow night. But that will be it till we move my Dad in 2 weeks.
