Jasper tries to mother *everyone*... Including my 13 year old cat, whom spent most of his life with out dogs, and doesn't enjoy Jasper's affections.
Tbf, the dogs don't have the ability to differentiate species, so they don't understand the licking my cats/birds upsets them. It's a long road of training at my house.

One of my babies pipped I think on Thursday, still isn't out. Yesterday it looked more like he was still absorbing his yolk but today it seems like he's trying to hatch but can't. Could be shrink wrap or is just stuck from something else. I'll have to attempt an assist. Baby with bruise didn't make it .

So... Because you guys won't judge me... yesterday was grinding food day, because my ducks won't eat whole black eyed peas. Grinding food involves multiple hours of work because I can't find a good automatic grinder for both the size feed I want, and amount I need for my birds.

Today is pull all the deep bedding out of the coop, along with the sand I had under it, so that we can replace the sand with gravel, put paving stones over it, and then go back to deep bedding... This is happening because auto water feeders are used by ducks, whom take wood chips bedding and soak it in the water feeders, and then bring it back to the coop.... Which creates black mold.

It's possible I'm ruled by ducktators.

I would make a small air hole in the air sac end of the egg so at least it will get oxygen. This is what I have done before and then if nothing happens eventually I have had to peel one completely out of its shell. It was full of wet goo so I gently washed that off of it and put it in the brooder under and light and it is now 9 months old and just fine. Good luck with your little one. Keep us posted.

Thank you! Very good advice, but now he's out thankfully. Unfortunately I can't tell if he's finished absorbing. He has a pretty big yolk sack attached to him but it could be excess stuff. It's been a good 48 hours at least. To assist him I gently peeled back what I could on the shell, there were no blood veins left or anything too messy. I ran hot water over a sink for some nice humid steam as I worked, then rubbed some coconut oil on the exposed parts. He was out within 2 hours.
Just worried about the yolk sack. I know eventually it will fall off but should I set him in a plastic cup or something with the rest of the egg to let him finish if he still needs to?

I was fortunate, with one of mine that was in a homemade styrofoam cooler incubator I had a paper towel in the bottom of it and it just laid on it and absorbed the yolk with me not having to do anything else. It was alone though so no other chick could step on it or break it. Some people do put them in a cup to keep them from breaking it themselves but I was actually afraid to touch it in fear that I would break it and it worked out fine for me.
