Last baby has hatched
Never had one this colour before
It’s blonde but not a brighter yellow
I do have a buff Swedish so wondering if she is mom
Baby was a full assist as it bruised the egg 3 days ago I made the safety hole and left it be till this morning
I never open the egg more as I don’t want to be wetting membrane
Assisting over time I learned less is better :)
She seems to be doing good
Moving around a little and even had a poo while I was holding her
She is day 31
Her siblings hatched day 28 and 29’
I didn’t get these eggs till day 17 and Babies looked behind for the date as well as air cells were tiny so it’s been a challenge with them
They are my ducks eggs but a lady took them for her broody goose who scattered them day 16 and she brought them to me the next day
Eggs were cold and no movement so I really didn’t have much hope
But all 3 hatched :)
Soooooo precious!!!!

Okay guys, I'm puzzled and need your thoughts.
Yesterday I was in town and saw a few mallard hens. I went down to say hi to them, and noticed another sitting on the bank slightly. Not too odd.

But as I watched, the other girls swam off and left this one alone.
She seemed tired. I just had an off feeling about how she was behaving.
So I stepped down the other side, about a metre from her, and talked to her

She refused to get up or move away. Now I'm a little concerned.
I extended my hand towards her to see if she would move, she let me close, a foot away, refused to move. She hissed.

The hiss reminds me of when Dougie was broody, exact same sound and body posture.
I do not see a nest.
The area is completely public. Foxes, rats, weasels, birds and two legged predators can very very easily grab her. Not to mention we are forecast a lot of rain and this bank could go under.

I wanted to pick her up to see if she was injured. But obviously this is a wild duck and if by some chance she has made awful life decisions and is sitting on a "nest", I would be breaking laws. But my gut is telling me she is unwell.

So what do you think is going on?
I may go back today to check on her and see if she is still there.

Could she have possibly been over mated by the males and just trying to recover from it???? That happens a lot to these poor wild females and to ours if we don't separate them which I have done with mine. Hopefully she was just resting and trying to stay away from the group so that it didn't happen again if that is what is going on.

I know you said she was with the hens but she looks a whole lot like my Mallard Juvenile Drakes that I have right now. Maybe that is why the Hens took off and left her?????

The waddle inn is finished
This is their outdoor safe place from our crazy winter weather along with where the feed and water are keeping it dry from rain
In summer I keep a sun shade over the clear panels to keep the heat from getting in
In winter they will be off to help heat it up
It’s attached to their night duck house
They keep trying to sleep in it but I won’t allow it
The duck house is 100% predator proof
Cement floor and stucco siding ( old garage turned into coop )
The waddle inn has dirt floor that predator’s could dig to get under and in so it’s closed at dark
It has a screen door that stays open when they are outside
Window that can close and a window fan to keep things circulating
The coop has electrical so I’m able to keep heated buckets out there in winter
The light in the coop is solar and works amazing
Yes my diva ducks live like kings and queens :)

Wonder if you could bring it treats and see if it will even stand up so you can see under
Hopefully she is okay
