So.. I was tormenting one of my ducks this morning... (She seemed like she was feeling "off", and I was doing a health check)

It's like her beak grew over her nare. It's hard, and there's no hole there.

Has anyone ever heard of this?

Was she always like this, or something recent? With the way that's peeling, I'm thinking she's moulting her bill 'skin'?

Maybe try putting something like coconut oil on her bill, to moisturize and loosen.

As far as I know it's something recent. I've had her for about a year and a half and previously she had 2 nares.

Coconut oil is good idea, and I have some. I plan on giving her a bath later to see if I can get a better idea of what it looks like. I'll tey the oil then. Thank you!

Update: I freaked out over dirt in her nare. It was just gunk. I gave her a bath and got it out. She's good now! Thanks for your ideas!

So I bought a new pair of rubber boots. They are tan with roosters on them. My old ones are dark red with chickens on them. yesterday I wore the new ones out to let everyone out and my Muscovy kept attacking me. I could not figure out what the heck was going on with him. I mean he was really aggressive. Finally, I said to my dh I wonder if it has something to do with my new boots, well today I wore my old ones and he was calm as can be. So I guess when I wear my new boots I am going to be abused for some reason he does not like my boots.

My more aggressive rooster attacks my feet until he gets used to different shoes. It's possible it's just scared of stranger danger.
