Support Group for Abused Duck Keepers

I don’t get hissed at by daisy , nugget or dasher I get soft talks and I can reach in and pet them
But chest is on some eggs and last night I learned not all ducks are as chill as my other girls
I won’t be sticking my hand in her nesting crate 😆
Aw
She's all bark
If I lift her to check the eggs, she's good as gold, just let's me touch her and the eggs no issue
But at a distance she's still got that massive broody attitude!
I keep telling her that she's a very good broody, very fierce. That reassurance seems to calm her 😆

You have a great bond with your girl
Chest I haven’t held since she was a baby and she still doesn’t eat from my hand even
I just had to many ducks and wasn’t planning on keeping them so didn’t put in the effort

I would take abuse all day from this one ❤️
😆

@ruthhope Has a drake flock

Do they have multiple pools and feed/water stations? Sometimes that can help
She said they have all been going at each other but yesterday when 2 were fighting the other 2 ran in and helped so 3 ti 1
They pulled feathers from his neck , head and back
She has him inside right now
They all hatched together but it’s hormone season

Anyone on here run all drake flocks?
Need advice for a lady who took 4 young drakes last year
They are all fighting now and 3 ganged up on one yesterday

I have a secondary drake flock where I've gone/going through similar issues. The drake I brought in from my main flock had been the one being picked on, but now he's become the aggressor towards the old leader, and the other two drakes have joined in as well.

I find a couple dog crates in the coop has helped a lot. Not only do I put one or two of the most aggressive in their crate every night, but they also stay inside an extra hour or so in the morning. So, it not only cuts down on any fighting they'd do at night, but it also gives whoever is on the bottom of the pecking order a chance to eat and have a bit of peace in the morning. You can use the crates to give drakes timeouts during the day too, but I haven't found that to be terribly effective with my drakes.

Like @BelovedBirds said, multiple feed/water stations help, but I've found that less useful regarding pools. Even when they can't see, if my boys hear any splashing, they'll jump out of one pool and beeline straight for the other to claim it as their own.

Beyond that, I'm not sure what you could besides making sure the 1 duck has enough space to get away from the others.

Thank you. I have passed this onto her
Just sucks when this happens cause they were all so close

I wore gloves when I was taking the last of the eggs that did not hatch out of the nest from my Mallard Spice. She about went nuts and was even fighting me for the fake egg! I had thrown it in the middle of the pet gazebo and by the time I had checked the others to make sure they were no good she had it moved back in the nest and was sitting on it again! Some people say they can't carry eggs but I beg to different. She had the nest so steep with sand and wood shavings that there is no way she could have rolled it all the way to get it in there.
