Support Group for Abused Duck Keepers

I don’t have any black Swedish so when I got a black one I was shocked
I saw my khaki / pekin mom lay the egg and marked it with an N so I knew when it hatched
My blue Swedish gets her often
This is mom , dad and baby
Other then that I have only seen her lay twice and marked the eggs
One was a black Swedish one a chocolate Swedish
She lays later morning so was easy
The rest of my girls lay first thing so I don’t know I have 10
Laying girls and 3 more to young yet
My Black Swedish looks like your drake only the white on it goes farther down its chest. You have beautiful ducks. Do you think your young one is a male or female. Mine is probably a male as it does not quack. I am waiting them out though because even though there is no quacking going on one is trying to make noise and chattering more. When they get their total green heads I will know more.

Mine is a girl. She started to quack about 5-6 weeks old
I heard girls have smaller bibs so that’s why I kept it in hopes it was a girl

Mine are all born in my backyard and only once did I get two Hens with my Runners this Spring. The rest of my doubles were all a Hen and a Drake which is better than 2 drakes. lol
My blue Swedish was eggs from a friend that she donated to the school that I give all my stuff to use to hatch ducklings. The teacher got some of my eggs and some Swedish eggs
Somehow when picking up the babies from the teacher I ended up keeping that one Swedish ( thanks to my daughter ) although he is a great drake
Then my newest editions are ancona
Same friend hatched a bunch and I brought back over 20 of them to help sell
I kept a few back that I was growing out to keep girls
The 3 I picked were girls the one my daughter picked is a boy
But he is staying he is gorgeous
He has so much colour in his wings
I ended up with one lavender , brown girls along with my black Swedish looking girl
Then the black ancona boy

Beautiful Ducks. I am thinking about letting go of my Mallard/Rouen Drake and keeping the 4 little Call Drakes and the Black Swedish half Call and half I thought possibly Muscovy but not sure. I also have the three Mallard more than likely 9 week old Drakes as they sound like boys. I have read that a Black or Blue Swedish can throw off either black or blue ducklings. I am hoping that the smaller Black Swedish would be easier on my Hens but not sure????

Smaller is better
I had to re home my silver / blue Swedish. He was way to big for some of my girls
I was worried he would break their wings

Yes I know, I had a ton of feathers broken off of my Hens and rehomed 4 of my big boys and traded for the 4 little Call Ducks. I call them the Mafia boys though because I caught 3 on top of one of my Mallard hens. Off to jail they went, lol.
