Surgery a few days ago, was doing great, now lethargic

NutriDrench dosage is 1 ml for every 3 pounds of weight daily. I would just keep working with her today until bedtime, then both of you need some rest. I would follow your vet’s advice on the medication dosage.

Ok. Did you all see the photo of her? Am very concerned she could be in pain. About to try the tube.

Update-just got 30 ml of food/Gatorade into her. I know that's not enough for her weight but seems all I can do now. Struggled to get the syringe off in order to put another one .

Yes, she is likely feeling very sick and it's possible she's also in pain.

This is not meant to contradict the advice you are getting from your vet, but the way I treat a hen that is as sick as yours is to tube feed nutrients a couple times a day, and I would try a stronger antibiotic. I do not tube feed more than two days in a row unless I see progress and the chicken is still too weak to eat on their own. Continuing to tube feed a chicken that is not getting any better is to prolong suffering.

The way I can tell when it's time to euthanize a sick chicken is when the hen stops eating and drinking on their own and any progress appears to be in reverse. Usually a hen that has given up keeps her eyes closed all the time and will often lie on her side. Death is usually imminent at that point.

I hope she somehow pulls through overnight. This would be such a heart breaking end to her fight.

Is it not worth going back to the vet?
