SURGERY COMPLETED, IT WAS A SUCCESS!

Congratulations!

If she's eating that many feathers you might have to do something to up her protein. I've run in to problems with Purina feeds that have only soy as a protein source. I've since switched to a feed that has animal protein with very good success.

yet one more person I know that has better success when reintroducing MEAT protein.

Additionally, you may want to give her some black oil sunflower seeds (same kind as you buy for wild birds). Cured the feather eating of my rescues.

Yep, Sandra, I switched my birds last Winter. I had quite a bit of conversation with the prior manufacturer regarding the problems I saw with my birds. They suggested everything under the sun was wrong with my birds, jerks. This heat wave we just went through is the proof for me that the animal protein is better, I did not see a single repeat of the problems I had last summer when it was no where near as hot for as long.

What kind of animal protein do you give them? Just cat food? Most poultry feed has a soy protein base, difficult to find animal protein chicken feed. How much and how often do you give cat fod, etc...

I was told ground up feathers was the protein source. I suppose contacting the manufacturers and asking would be only way to really know.

The two that I know of that have animal protein is Nutreena and Dumor. Dumor is a Tractor Supply brand. I didn't care for all the fines in the Nutreena, that's the biggest reason why I'm using Dumor.

People also use cooked, chopped egg for protein. There are fish meal products that can be used as top dressing. Some actually cook fish to add to their diets.

WARNING!

Make sure you keep your dry cat food out of the kitchen or your husband may eat a handful of it thinking it's some new health-food snack!!
