Surprise, Surprise! 49 Chicks and 3 Ducks Arrived Friday!

How fun. It must be fun that you and your Dad are into the same thing. I am trying to get my parents to get into chickens.

My father has always liked gardening and raising animals. My father has had chickens since I was a little kid.

It seems the opposite with you, since you are trying to get your parents to raise chickens.

Good for your dad thats a sweet deal! I want to get it now! Thanks for the update.

It might take a little longer to reach Idaho, but I am sure the chicks would be fine. I would be interested in finding out what other people get in their surprise packages.

How fun - I might do this next year. We have a little pond, I'd love to have a few ducks. But then...I'm not sure I want turkeys...

You could sell or give away turkeys that you didn't want. They may not put turkeys in the surprise shipment now. I have not looked at the price of turkeys, but I am pretty sure they cost more than chickens.

I just bought 5 from Atwoods here and they were on sale ..... 6.69 per poult. I got my shipment from efowl today and was really pleased!!! Ordered 6 buffs, 5 NN, 5 top hat special, 10 straight run assorted heavies.....they are all alive and peeping like crazy!!!

You made me curious, so I took a look at the turkeys on Cackle Hatchery's website. You can buy one white turkey for $5.60, so they are much more expensive than chickens.

But what struck me was how much poults look like chicks. I am wondering if my father has received one or more turkeys and he just doesn't recognize it as a turkey. My father has never raised turkeys, and I don't think he's ever seen a 3-day-old turkey.

I guess he'll know if he hears it gobble.

It seems you have a lot of birds also.

Do the poults and chicks look very similar when they are next to each other?
