Surviving Minnesota!

Good morning chicken people. Got up and down to the coop. The Illini girls were down off the roost eating and drinking. Big girls still roosted. So there was no territory squabbles yet that I could tell. Glad for that. Big girls went right out the pop door. Littles stayed in. That's perfect. I'll let them come out at their own pace.

It's a perfect rainy day here. We purchased a used runabout last night. We are all so excited. DH found a covered boat lift cheap for it on Craig's list. Dialed the number and it was my BIL! Ha. Town is way too small.

Good luck jerry finding Bigfoot in Remer.

Jerry, it seems that you may be Eul Gibbons reincarnated with all this food from the wilds stuff. Good to read that you found some wild blackberries. The birds do love the juneberries and they are tasty, but I prefer blueberries.

They had wild weather just to the North of me the other night at Island Lake reservoir and surrounding area. 150 year old pines toppled, homes damaged, pontoon boats flipped upside down & etc. We got 6 tenths of an inch of rain, and I slept through it.

Ralphie, it is unfortunate that you are not able to attend the Sasquatch gathering, as you might be considered the resident expert?

BC.. Never buy anything from a relative, Tell him I will be up to get the lift. I need one and it is safe to sell to me, I am not a relative...

EJB. I like my buddy Sasquatch am a recluse and do not do well in crowds. The other PC hen is broody now. She has 3 of her own eggs under her. I am hoping she does better with them than I do.

I let Ed out to roam, he seems so lost not having been with the rest of the flock for the last 6 months. He is still the same great rooster. Judy and I sat and had a Mike's while watching the hen in the tree, Ed came over and sat with us. We thought it was funny. He sat there and chattered softly the whole time.

My Mother's cat brought her a present this morning:

They are destroying my garden! I shot 2 last night and the cat brought this one this morning. Yea, I know they are cute. I tried to reform this one, but he fell into my gas chamber just as I was emptying the can of ether into it. He is now a good rabbit.

It's hard to see a bunny and know it's fate. I remember gardening against the wee fools last summer though...and lost. The frustration is real. They are so good at what they do...and with clover patches in the lawn near by...well they are just buggers.

Ralphie. We have another boat lift for you. It is FREE! You just have to wade into a black bottom muck weed area, catch a case of duck itch, break the suction of the muck holding the wheels in then hoist it out. It has no lift wheel on it from hooligans stealing it, however. But as I say...it's totally free.

I might have been the jerk who has poisoned my chicken??????? I have been reading EVERYTHING on this Merek's stuff trying to figure out how it could have gotten into my flock, and then hoping that it is something else. Well I have a good idea based on her symptoms what else it might be.....Aflatoxins. I do fermented feed, I use organic, no corn, no soy feed. Well DUH! I put a cup full of cracked corn in my fermented feed about a week ago. Then I moved all my feed outside in a hot shed. I found a little mold on the side of the bucket but in all my reading, it said just mix it in with your fermented feed because the good bacteria will eat it right up. Well never thought of Aflatoxins from the corn...which you CAN'T see.

I am going to dump all the fermented seed I have going in the one bucket that had the corn in it and start over. Hoping this may be it but how do I treat her for this and is there any hope for her???

Oh...and Ralphie...you made me cry a little. Just sayin....

Siggie: your post makes me want to go clean out my feed bowls. Yah...you just never know with chickens. I wonder if Roger got his airway thing from Mold...? Did I keep the bowls clean enough? Probably not. You're making me think.

With all the things laying around for birds to pick up ...you just can't be sure. I had a bird eat a crumble of miracle grow a couple years ago. It took two days but she died from it. horrible horrible. She was a beautiful olive egger too.

It's live and learn alot of the times with these birds.

What a bargain! A free boat lift! Wow.... If I give you a free bunny will you haul it to Togo?

I will have to pass on the duck itch, I am anti anything waterfowl.

It was hard sending the Bunny to the happy clover fields in the sky, but if you saw what they have been doing to my garden.... Well, let's just say it made it easier...

Siggie, Judy claims I make her cry a lot.......I think she makes me cry a lot...

Chickens can be so tough and scavenge on just about anything with no ill effects then all of a sudden they get 3 molecules of something and keel over.

I think I have been skating by on all this chicken getting sick stuff. I had better knock on wood right now. So much to learn. Mine get taken by eagles and it breaks my heart.

Poor little bunny. Then I think that little bunnies grow up to be big bunnies. Oh, okay. I have heard of people that raise bunnies for meat. Its pretty good too. Tastes like chicken I am told.
