Surviving Minnesota!

morning everyone....woke up to snow cover this morning...what??! yes I am afraid so.

too cold to sit out in the coop yesterday so not sure if anymore chicks hatched. Figured it was too cold for the chicks to come out and play anyhow... the cage around the 2 broodies seems to be working well though.

it is day 5 of my husband being sick and I am about to sell him to the highest bidder...any takers? I was outside working yesterday and was not aware of the time...when I came in I saw that he had made himself leftovers. I went upstairs and asked him why he didn't call me and have me come in to make dinner? I got screamed at that I should have known what time it was and I was just out there "f#!*king" around and I knew he was hungry and wanted spaghetti.....hmmmm. I had many choice words swimming around in my head but I am chalking his attitude up to his being sick otherwise I think I would have to kill him in his sleep.

sorry about the loss of your chick ILL :(

2 chicks hatched last night. I'm very impressed with the foot feathering on the 2 so far.
The 4 other eggs are pipped

Nothing like DH's to make a woman feel appreciated. I have a self entitled one too. Although he kind of knows better as I've gotten older. He's getting trained that he just needs to make it himself if I'm busy. He farts around enough hunting and fishing and being gone, shirking the chores around our house that he dare not make remarks about late dinner and such.

Serious on the bone soup though. that stuff really helped me get through a lengthy stomach virus last spring. Also Rice Malt-o-meal. And Kefir. And of course you know lots of water.

Saturday I went up to Mom and Dad's and had a lovely day with my Sisters family and my God Father, Uncle Bill, Mom's brother. After a delicious ham dinner we split and stacked a pile of wood Dad had. About 3 cord of wood. I didn't tie in some long pieces at the endsand the stack at one point fell over. Uncle Bill a 6 foot Norwegian from the hill country in SE Minnesota who doesn't say a whole lot started laughing at my sister and I. Hooting and hollering. I have to say that it was funny. But bruised ego that my stack fell over. Jerry are you sure you want my help stacking slabs? LOL. I think Ed has a better back personally. I can make him some Manhattans while he helps you clean up that Eagle Roost of a white Pine of mine.

Shannon, the teacher incubating the eggs, came over and picked them up. She will set them tomorrow. Those kids get so excited for this. And I must say that I am too for them. We opened the cartons and stared at the eggs and discussed the possibilities. LOL. Junkies. Chicken junkies....

Back at work today. DS with a full day of golf today at a home tournament.

Ivie. The wedding sounds just lovely. I think I would cry too.

Reducing birds. I will tell you all that when I'm lower on birds, I have less stress to be quite honest. It's nice. The more you get, the more it seems there's an issue here and there. And I don't like chicken issues. IDK.... And maybe I'm getting so I know how to handle the issues better. But I would just rather have a small handle-able flock.

Layers sorry you lost a chick. That one with the feathered feet is gorgeous though. Very good looking chick.

Looks like BC stacks wood like a drunk . Looks like I owe pullets to get my log pile .

but this stomach thing I think is really throwing him for a loop. I'm over it now, but I still told him to sleep with one eye open hee hee...

I have plenty of herbal remedies but he won't even try them (thick skull)...I did manage to get him to drink some bone broth so hopefully he's on the mend.

........leaky waterers. They were fine for many many moons - then poof - Drained them for winter and didn't use them cuz I haven't had good winter luck with them in the past; and now they all leak this spring. Double walled type. No, they don't get carried by the handle on the cover part; no they aren't hanging waterers; and yes we've caulked them where we *think* they are leaking.

Phooy. What are some of your guys' summer water systems looking like??? I'd like something where I don't necessarily have to lug 5 gallon buckets every day to fill. And DIY doesn't scare us!

Low walled rubber trugs, or just the rubber feed pans is what I use. Cheap, sturdy, and easy to clean.

I am just counting my blessings and crossing my fingers I can survive the last of the season without catching THE FLU. It helps that DH and I don't leave the farm much; and don't have germ infested terrorists *cough, erhm* .... Kids.... around the house. My brother and his family just had this go thru this past weekend and he said he lost 8 pounds since Saturday night
