Surviving Minnesota!

Lol. Great name!
Sorry I missed meeting you today holm. I got lost a bit on what Minnie called an 'old map'. They relabeled the roads about 8 years ago. Anyways got turned around and gave her a call and found our way there. Was great to meet BYC folk face to face and so excited to start the hatch project.

Brought the eggs to my friend and she was thrilled with them. Anxious to start her classroom hatch project.

She also had me look at a leg horn that has not been laying and looking ill. I palpated her abdomen and she has the egg mass of egg yolk peritonitis. We went through the hens and there's another bird with it as well. Both hatchery stock.
And one of the reasons I drive for hatching eggs.
So sorry Erli. What a horrible thing to happen to you while you were giving her care. More room for a new pullet I guess.

Jerry how was fishing?

Yesterday my daughter had a pacesetter tournament in Frazee. We got 3rd place. 1/2 outr usual girls were at a softball tournament so we were down some players. That made it tougher. The girls put up a good fight though and were happy with 3rd just as well.

Long day there and then got up at 5:00 to be on the road at 6:00. Had lunch with my sister in the cities at an awesome Irish pub in shakopee. Then off to TSC and menards in elk river. Then home.

My sister wants to get 2-3 hens for her back yard. She has a gorgeous grape lined fenced yard. And those birds would be so
Spoiled. She's the perfect person to have chickens as well. I think she's liked chickens longer than I have. I told her she totally needs to get them. I see a coop raising in savage in my near future.

Thanks BTC yes I wish I had some of Minnie's eggs... Good luck with yours!

So maybe the lesson her is - if you have a bird and name it Hoppi - keep it away from water.  Sorry to hear about Hoppi erlibird.  I hope she was not suffering from three weeks ago to now. Probably not. We humanize our animals too much! We get so attached to them.

Ralphie- I am sure my one CLB is a hen and I KNOW the other is a roo.  Lucky me!  Their names are Reginald and Regina. They are both so regal. Still not sure what the SS are. If they are all hens then Reggie will have his work cut out for him because this flock will have 10 hens and he is their roo. That would be a nice number in a flock. If one of the SS is a roo then those birds will have their own run. I want SS - so curious, so friendly. Actually so are the CLB

Thanks Ivie. She didn't seem sick but you know chickens...

@erlibrd
sorry to hear about your loss.

We had a busy weekend soaking up the the sun and wind. Just loved walking around the yard seeing all the trees budding one day and bursting with leaves the next. The little chicks were integrated with the big chicks....remarkably everyone is getting along. They were introduced to grit on Friday and mealworms on Saturday.....needless to say everytime anyone walks into the coop we are now ran up to instead of ran away from. The rainbows, speckled sussex, and asian blues are the most greedy....

Rock picking, and seeding oats has began on the farm. Thank God I have my day job to relax at and catch up with BYC. :D

]Thank you.

Ralph idk what u did with Lucky but he has become quite the people lover! I walked up to the coop door earlier and he walked over, hopped on the door ledge and watched everyone with me! Then I walked over to give the CCL and Buckeyes a treat and he followed. I squatted down and he walked over and started making a chirping noise and didnt quit till he got a belly rub! He is becoming quite the rooster even though he just came yesterday! Lots of pics to post tonight!

And I can't believe I forgot this: We're getting pigeons! Picked one pair of Baldhead Birmingham Rollers, and still deciding between another pair. Either Crested Rollers or Orientals. Can't wait to get them!

You found some! Pictures?

My Khakis have been growing like weeds. Let me know if you want a drake to, ummmm, replace the ones you got rid of. I'm very generous like that.

Yep! The person hasn't sent pics yet, I'll post them when we get some pictures, it should be tonight. They are growing like crazy! Wow! But I just couldn't take away the pleasure of having a drake.

My friend's daughter raised roller pigeons for a while - they were really a lot of fun to watch. Enjoy!

Pics, of course!!
