Surviving Minnesota!

Put my eggs into lock down last night. All 10 of the eggs that I set from Ralphie are still alive, and I also have 12 cochin eggs still in there. On day 14, 4 were clear, and one early quitter, but the rest made it so far. Trying really hard not to count my chickens before they hatch. I am so used to hatching shipped eggs though, that this seems amazing to me. :)

Even more exciting news is my sister is in labor, so expecting a new niece any time now! (Another sister had a baby last week, and another 3 months ago. Babies, babies everywhere! Love it!)

Oh, I tried letting my mama hen and her babies out with the fock. Mama and baby got pecked, and mama was still brooding I think, so I kept her locked up a few extra days till the chicks could move faster... I let them out yesterday, and all is well. Mama is defending babies just fine, being a good mama. I think she is kinda terrorizing the flock though. Lol

I see where GFF has a new breed to release . 55 Flowery another auto sexing breed . This one by Silverudd . Hmmm interesting genetic combo .

Is the rooster you sold to me blue? His wings seem not quite black. I know what you mean about chocolate fading! My khaki campbell hen who started out a rich deep dark turned a very creamy almost light tan on her back.
I think he is regular mille but I could be wrong. I only had 1 blue mille hen and she always laid in one corner nest box or at least I thought so. Also the guy I got them from didn't say anything about there being blue in the background of the rest but I never really asked either.

Nathan, you will enjoy the show that the rollers put on, and with your skill at producing video of flying birds you should get some nice video to show.
What type of rooster has the Maiden Rock hen been with? I have two bantams left here a Citron Spangled Maiden Rock and a Gold Campine, and both are hens. They will not be crossed with the Chanteclers.

Ralphie, there you go for a source of foo foo birds. I expect that Destiny has quality!

Judy ran to town, So I took that opportunity to bring the secret stash of hatching eggs in the basement upstairs and put them in the hatchers. I might get one more Buckeye. I just candled them again and they are late quitters. I debated throwing them out when I candled the last time.

I have 6 PC eggs that could actually hatch this time. I have not had a turkey hatch out of the batch labeled for the 18th. That is a tad worrisome.

JJ was not as enthralled with the Lady Vet today, but Judy was home and he was hanging close to her. I am down to 2 Toms on the green mile. I sold one this afternoon and a hen. I was iffy on the hen, but Judy thought I should let the guy have one. Knowing she might look in the hatchers tonight and see 73 eggs that were not there this morning, I figured I would give her that one and sell the hen.

Holm, Lucky always was a friendly bird, He was my TV companion. He liked to sit on my lap and watch TV with us. Just be careful and I know you know this, a rooster that is imprinted on humans as much he is can become a belly button when he hits puberty.

After a hard track practice we did a thing called shuttle runs which is where did junior high splits in half, then we race against each other.
The teams were pretty fair, and both teams put their fastest runners first.
So I went first for my team, the last person was Chris, Chris is not fast at all, and some of the kids give him a hard time about it.
After 2 rounds of playing the score was 7-7
We score by when someone wins their team gets a point.
So Chris being the last person we thought we were going to lose, if we lost we had to do 40 push ups and 40 sit ups.

But at the last moment Chris sped up a little bit and beat Jayden!!
We were all super happy but for me I was happy that Chris finally feels appreciated by some of his teammates,

Other then that on our way home my dad looked at me and said "I know what I forgot! I forgot to open the little chicken door."
So in other words he let the birds out the people door, closed the people door and forgot to open the chicken door up

So the 2 chickens inside were nice, cozy, and warm, the chickens outside were soaked unless they found somewhere to sit.
After supper I have to go on an egg hunt, I need to find about 20 eggs

ONLY ONE MORE DAY UNTIL I GET MY MILK COW!!!!

Klop... I'm not that far west of you and its totally overcast and a few drips so far. Supposed to rain into tomorrow... Got the lawn mowed quick and farm chores done. Cleaned up the garden a little more and most of my perennials are coming in nice. My asparagus even poked up yesterday too.

Ralphie... If you really want to get into the fufu breeds, let me know. I have tons of silkies out of the shell now and limited numbers of bantam salmon faverolles and polish (maybe even frizzled ones too). I breed only for the show ring so they are culled hard.
We have had a few drips here and there but it wont commit! we need a little rain! it has been so windy and sunny that we are dry as a bone! it is so dusty out!

Congrats on the new babe in the family!

I have a very feisty silkie that brooded one clutch and fostered another last year. Normally, she keeps her distance from the large fowl, but is extremely docile with is. But when she has chicks, she goes all kung-fu on anyone she deems to close - she even puts the darn guineas in their place LOL! She's just standoffish with us, but my one daughter would laugh when bringing them a separate food dish, the little silkie would peck her shoe and swagger off! I'm glad your little mama is holding her own. :)

So, @duluthralphie, those foo foo breeds can pull their weight! I have found the black ones to be better at blending into the scrub than the splashes we've had, all of the splashes disappeared. :( Australorps are good broodies, too, and can handle a larger clutch. But if you're going foo foo, try black silkies. I think buffs would do alright, too.

Congrats on the successful team run!
I am very excited for you about the cow!!! I was just offered one Friday by a friend who runs a dairy, but I don't think I have the time this season with adding sheep, bees, the rabbit colony, and the normal chicken sales with a graduation party for my eldest to top it off. I think I need to hold off one more season.
I will milk vicariously through you! ;)
Post pics, okay?!
