Surviving Minnesota!

I should get my milk cow today! Depends on how wet the roads are.
If I get her today I will make sure to post lots of pictures

Nice looking rooster.....It appears to be a barred rock?

Question for all you chicken experts: My 9 year old son has his first ever flock of barred rock that he intends to show for 4H. For some reason he was given an extra rooster...one rooster is runtly and visibly smaller than the hens and visibly smaller than the other rooster. He is eating and drinking fine, just not gaining weight. Should we consider giving him a little home of his own for a while or let him run with the flock yet. (They are only 1 week old)

THanks for the advice!

Thanks! He is a who knows what from Ralphie! He sure is a big boy!

I found a deer tick embedded in my skin this morning. anyone- would you wait to see if it stays red around it or go to the dr. ? I don't know if they just give antibiotics or test anymore.

I work around Doctors all day and asked as I'm curious myself. Like everyone said already, the test for Lyme's is absolutely horrible. A lot of false positives/negatives. He said they pick up on infections you've had prior as well hence the false positive. They're maybe 50% accurate. He said unless the tick was engorged with blood, it's likely nothing was transmitted. It depends on the tick as well. But like everyone else also said, if you become symptomatic, go get some labs done. You should hopefully make it =) Kidding, kidding.....

Did the hatchery end up sending you some BRs? I'm glad he got them - that would have been a huge disappointment. I have two BRs right now and I'm hoping they're females. Beautiful birds.

If it were me with that smaller rooster and he wasn't being picked on or stomped on, I'd leave him be.

Deer ticks are horrible! My brother got Lymes last year and it was horrible. He couldnt walk without screaming pain. And on top of that a few days before his symptoms of that were showing I broke his leg on a spinny thing. He got stuck under and I didnt see and I spun it and he heard a pop... It was bad... I felt like a horrible person

I have a love-hate relationship with the phone app. It is nice that, between the phone and computer, they remember where I last left a thread. But most of my photos are on my phone, and the phone app won't let me upload them for some reason. I can work around it, though.

I was able to see your pictures, but I was too lazy to "quote" your pictures. :) I just followed your facebook page, too.
I think their Mobile app needs alot of work personally. I can't do their smiley faces or access my photos I've already posted. I'm not a fan. But it works in a pinch for just typing down some words.

Morning . I see you are posting this morning . Must be rainy . Rain coming but not here yet . Sunday we were fishing for panfish . 1 crappie some bluegill and 1 channel cat were caught . I caught 1 three inch bluegill . I was using waxies and cousin using crickets . Grandson used chicken liver for catfish .

Thinkin of using Millie Fleur and barring together since I have them in bantam . Similar to the 55 Flowery . Maybe call them Prairie Flowers . What do you think ?

Need pictures of Maiden Rocks .
It is raining Jerry. That means green grass and leaves pushing through. I'm going to be more vigilant down at the dock. We have a black bottom lake (loon sh-crap) but the Crappies are in it galore. They come into the shallows about the end of may to spawn and feed. So dock fishing is pretty spectacular. I can usually mark it with the blooming of trilliums in the woods.

He may be a chick that is failing to thrive. Always a tough one....

Yes the Hatchery sent him 13 hens and 2 roosters, lost one hen immediately but otherwise everyone is doing well. They are beautiful and when we integrated them with my daughters chicks that were 1 week older....nobody seemed to care and everyone is getting along well. (Knock on wood)
